this guy sells everything i need i think i may go here instead just wonder on the quility of the parts

I picked up an MTX Sw1212 powered subwoofer today. This thing sounds amazing. 130 watts, 12" woofer with a passive 12" woofer tuned to 27 hz. Moving the pictures on the walls and my girl got wet from the bass when i showed her haha. Tonight should be good haha.

I would go with something more like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-DUAL-2-OHM-VOICE-COIL-1000-WATTS-SUBWOOFER-SPEAKER-RECONE-/140740251956?pt=US_Speaker_Sub_Grills_Accs&hash=item20c4c5d134

You are going in the right direction though. You can go with a taller coil as long as you set the spiders right. The excess coil sticking out of the gap will provide heat dissipation. You still want a 4 layer flat wound alum if I'm not mistakin'

i have to get a caliper and messure the gap to see what coils i can fit. i wana stay with d4 though becuase i plan on running 2. my only question is how do you know where about the coil should be placed

with a flat wound i can get a higher power coil in so ill prolly keep that.

but if that coils will fit this is the plan

coil.

cap

might go with this or with a poly

if i use that it pushes me over the 220 shipped that fi would cost but. id have almost 3x the power handling and 10x the sexy with a carbon cap

what about painting the cone id like to have a red cone just not sure what adverse effects there would be on painting it if any or what type of paint would be the best.

I would use Fi. I used them when I did my 4 15's build. Had RE SE motors and got baskets and all for around 550 IIRC. Everything fit perfect.

People take these SE motors and put the pre 05 XXX parts in them. If you buy a compression plug from Fi you may be able to create a cooling option for the sub and increase thermal handling. When you add in shipping, prices, quality concerns, and possible build errors from this stuff on ebay, it makes more sense to me to just buy a drop in from Fi.

when i messured the gap i got a 2.94" inner and a 3.28" outer it was hard to measure the outer though cause the caliper kept getting stuck to the motor im gona try and get a more accurate messurement later but it looks like that coil will fit with a tiny tiny gap on the outer side. any idea as to the cons of that?

what are the older xxx rated at.

older xxxs are rated at 1600a, but these motors wona't handle that because of their size and lack of cooling. at most 1200 can bea achieved

fi wont just sell a compression plug is there other places that i could get one? ik pore'es dust caps help cooling but idk if that would be an option here perhaps drilling a few small holes along the outer most edge of the cap to allow air into the coil and gap could aid in cooling? my only concern with doing this is that it might promote cancelling out allowing rear waves to interact with front waves. ive seen people put washers or bolts inbetween the frame and motor to aid in cooling in a custum recone that could be aplicable but im not sure what the correct way to go about it is. also whats your opinion on painting the cone. is there a certin type of paint that would be best?

You could do whatever you want to the cone if you're going to build the cone yourself. I would still check out showtimespl on youtube on building and voice coils. Plugging it won't do anything to sound. This is an option Fi uses on a lot of their product to add cooling
