Clarence Joseph Sales Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 What would be the disadvantage of 3.5cuft compared to 4cuft in terms of loudness? Is it noticeable?
alaskanzx5 Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 you would have to build both to know wich is louder by ear but on a meter it could gain or lose some. a bigger box is more effecient but if the subs cant preasurize the air in the box then you can lose output. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

Can't you just add power if subs can't pressurize the box you built?
alaskanzx5 Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 yes and no, once the sub is reaching its full xmax its not gonna be pretty if you force it to move more. then you pushing the mechanical and thermal limits of the sub. rms power handling of a sub has more to do with thermal power handling from my understanding. a smaller box gives you better mechanical power handling by helping to keep the sub under control and not bottoming out. over powering in to big of a box can push the subs past their mechanical limits while overpowering in a smaller box can increase its mechanical limits but push its thermal limit. thats why when overpower you cant play for as long of periods of time. sub gets to hot and burns up. in general smaller box is less efeceint but can give you better power handling. a bigger box gives you better effeceincy but less power handling. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
Clarence Joseph Sales Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 So would you advice just to build a 3.5cuft for each chamber? What would be the downside of having a smaller box than reccomended?
alaskanzx5 Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 for 15" sub you will want to be around 2.75-3.5cuft per sub. i know nothing about your subs, some brands like bigger some like smaller. if your willing to do some build test repeat then i would start somewhere in the middle. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.

I'm thinking to be safe go between 3.5 - 4 cuft?
alaskanzx5 Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 If you have 2 chambers then each chamber need to be 5.5-7cuft. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
Clarence Joseph Sales Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Posted June 12, 2013 If you have 2 chambers then each chamber need to be 5.5-7cuft. 5.5-7cuft per sub or per enclosure? ( 1 enclosure holds 2 subs) i'm leaning towards design 2 ( 2 subs port in between the subs) what can you say about the results in torres that i made?
alaskanzx5 Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 its 5.5-7cuft per chamber (box for 2 subs). i would do the design in #1 so that the ports will be at the top of the car along the roof but i would drop the volume down to 7cuft and that will help make it easier to get the port volume up to 14-15" per cuft. or if you want to do option #2 i would stack on box on top the other so that the port would be going up and down in the middle of the car. once again though get the volume down closer to 7cuft and that will help make it easier to get to the 14-15" per cuft t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
