Subwoofer Placement Poll! Blue Or Green?

Recommended Posts

So you can see why I am confused. My last install I placed the subwoofer where the green is and I didn't notice any problems, the only reason I am looking into this is because I want to know for sure as I have never placed it where the blue is. I don't want this enclosure to be the ginnie pig of experiments, I want it to be the final enclosure........till I get bored again.

I suppose I should have done a poll on what one to choose.

Green, the woofer will load off the port wall. With the blue you may get some phasing issues due to the sub firing so close to the port.

Actually, I agree with Charger. Not for the phase issue with proximity to the port, that should be well within acceptable limits. However, loading in the blue region may be detrimental to your desired sound. It may be far too 'boomy' resonating in that open box.

tl;dr, Load green.

I think that if I was to place it at the blue, it may not use the whole enclosure as most air would be forced out of the port before the rest of the enclosure was used. I am not 100% sure though, I was hoping for more responses to this question but I suppose not many are familiar with the question at hand.

Is there a reason for this?

The compression and rarefaction generated by the port can be of reverse polarity and interfere with the original signal from the driver. Of course, why didn't we think of that before? Thank god we have SPL2K with us. Thanks man.

Cheers,

Mick
