Aero port ......does this seem right?

Recommended Posts

Wanting to try building a box for a pair of btl's (12") using Aero ports.

Box dimensions.......14h x 36w x 20L gives me 4.62 cu ft.

According to this site...... http://www.psp-inc.com/tools.html

It says for a tuning of 32hz I need a flared port length of 12.39" if I use two 4" Aero ports.

Is this correct??

Is it enough port area for the btl's?

Never used Aero ports before so I would like someone who has used them before for help with this......thanks!

Your port length calculation needs to be based on the net volume, not gross.

Using 2 4" aeros 14.5" long, you will end up with close to 4 cuft net tuned to ~32 Hz.

This will also leave you just enough distance between the inside port opening and the back wall of the enclosure.

1 4" aero per 12 will seem a little low for port area, but in the Great 12" Challenge several years ago, they did some extremely impressive numbers with a single 12" BTL and 1 4" aero. Aeros just work great. At one time, David Moore was doing 154+ with a pair of MT 15's and 4 4" aeros. . .

Current system:

1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s

Previous systems:

2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz.

1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

So where do measure length wise on The Aero?

End to end with the flares on it.

They come 18" long, but you have to subtract 1" from the physical length to get the effective length.

Your ports calculate to be 13.5" long, but you have to add an inch, so physically they need to be 14.5" long.

So end to end with flares attached it needs to be a total of 14.5" long??

Just want to be sure before I screw up lol
