My friend got part of his system stolen, a couple of speakers a capacitor etc... He started to install it yesterday and says he installed same amp, subs and all that good stuff and that he is not getting any response from the subs. That they are barely moving and he has the gain set to what he used to like 3/4 of the way and that if he moves it a little higher that the subs start moving like crazy and start to distort. What could be causing this issue? He is in a different city than I am so I cant just go over and check his installation. What do you guys think the issue may be?

So when adjusting the gain, it goes from minimal to crazy with almost no turning? Sounds like that is a problem with the gain mechanism on the amp. I have a amp with similar problem.

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

There might have, even with a car off, putting a screwdriver or allen key into a bolt on a positive wire can arc to the casing and fry some circuitry, I have done it in the past.
