probillygun Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 I just had a custom set of A pillars built for my FJ cruiser that have a 3" CDT midrange and 1" CDT tweet with an additional 3/4" image enhancement tweeter in them and I'm very disappointed with the sound. The tweeters weren't angled enough to get them cross firing so the highs just aren't there enough. Also, the mids sound cloudy to me and I have tried EQing them, changing crossovers ect...for the last two weeks. I sat a set of MB quart home bookshelf speakers in there and they sound amazing and the tweeter has a lot better sound to me even when I angle the A pillars so I'm on Axis with the CDT tweeter.... So I'm ready to rip out all the CDT speakers and try something else and design all new pillars to accommodate the new speakers and angles. What do you SQ guys like for this application? I was thinking Focal or Morel? Thanks!

probillygun Posted July 15, 2013 Author Report Posted July 15, 2013 Some guys I notice are only firing the tweeter on axis...and the mid is in the dash off axis or in the pillar firing off axis...is that because of midrange not being as directional? ... I'm thinking yea.
White Lightning Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 Midrange drivers ... especially the larger you go with, require airspace just like midbass / sub bass drivers ... Most Sq cars go as far as venting the midrange drivers to the outside of the vehicle to get required airspace ... My 5.25" midrange drivers are ported and tuned just like sub bass drivers ... everything sounds better on axis if you have enough airspace to operate them properly and you have the adequate place to install them into your vehicle and still pass state driver's inspections ... TITUS1985 Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 Don't leave out hertz you said you have a 3 and a 1 in your A pillar and then I'm assuming the you have a spot for midbass in the door? The hertz hi energy 3 way components are a really nice set if speakers and they fit your speaker dimensions you stated above 1 inch tweet, 3 inch mid and 6 1/2 midbass. I've got them in my car running passive off axis (except tweeter it's on axis) and they sound amazing
