95neon_thumper82 Posted July 15, 2013 Report Share Posted July 15, 2013 first as you can probably guess its a 95 dodge neon base model.auto tranny. ok so I've been having a problem with this vehicle on longish trips get a ways and she will spit and sputter the first tim you get to a stop. I had this happen today driving local. I thought the fuel tank was vapor locking so I've had the fuel tank cap loose since a week ago abouts. normally you let it sit a while and she'll get back to driving and running normally. so I putt putted home today. I pulled up and raised the hood. and said wtf? cussed at her a few times. I went in the garage and got a drill bit and pressed the lil nipple pictured below. its on the fuel rail so I figured maybe low pressure or lack of gas so i was gonna check for fuel in the rail... nope I tapped it and the gas was a weird ass green color. or a darker yellow. could the corn fuel that's in the cheaper gas around iowa be messing up my fuel system? what could color it like that? any who I got what I could of that crap out of the fuel rail and turned the key on to start the fuel pump got it back to pressure and started her up... she started fine and ran well... what's up with this shit? 95neon_thumper82 Posted July 15, 2013 Author Report Share Posted July 15, 2013 its a normal clear if any color its a light yellow light brown but mostly like water... but I tend to buy the cheap stuff and it has ethanol in it... ill probably stop using that. the fuel filter is at very most 2000 miles old. may be in need of a change. I drive about 60 miles a day four days a week for work. and that's the majority of my driving. would that cause it to be a weird color? Also, if it was a clogged filter wouldn't it act up right from the start? or might it be a thing where it runs rough after the pump starts getting warmed up and starts fatiguing a lil bit? I'm kinda thinking my pump may be shot... A possibility of the intermittent putt putt is that the pump screen inside the fuel tank is full of trash and blocking fuel flow. I speak from experience. Old, clogged up screen.
