Guest Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 It's a 2007 Honda Civic EX I've been dealing with this alt. whine for what seems like forever. I originally had Best Buy do my install and they screwed so many things up and blew so many speakers I ended up getting a refund and doing the install myself. First off, I have 0 gauge ran down the center console to the trunk, and RCAs ran down the doors. My grounds are sanded chassis, nut & bolt. Here's a little info... The alt whine only comes out of ONE channel of the HU (front left RCA), I can put that output into any channel on my amp and the whine is there. I've swapped out amps to make sure it isn't the amp, I've also ran different RCAs with the deck pulled out straight to the amp across the cab of the car, and there was still whine. The whine is on all sources (XM, AUX, USB, CD) The factory wiring for AC controls runs along the RCAs for the most part to the center deck Whenever I move the aftermarket harness/factory wiring around in the deck the whine will get better or worse Whenever I turn my AC on the alt whine gets much worse. I've tried rerunning grounds on the amp side, as well as the HU straight to the battery, and still got whine. I connected my cell phone to the RCA that connects to the Front Left output of the HU and naturally, did not get alt whine. When I ground the RCAs the engine whine gets worse. I don't currently have a multimeter so I can't test the resistance of all my grounds, but from what I've been told running a ground straight to the battery should eliminate any diagnosis of a ground loop. I replaced the HU harness & aftermarket wiring harness because Best Buy hacked them up and wrapped electrical tape around it, what a mess. I've grounded the RCAs to the chassis. ....I'm at my wits end..anyone have any advice (besides lighting the car on fire and getting a new one or getting a noise isolator)? I would greatly appreciate it. ..I'm wondering if it's just the HU but really don't want to waste money on one to find out that it isn't the HU..
RCP Audio Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 I'm sure someone has one you can test the HU with. Or maybe a device you can plug into it to record it? Then play it back on your pc and see if you can hear wine. I'm guessing its electrical though. As it gets louder with your ac on. Does anything else trigger it to get worse? Or does anything make it quieter in anyway? PSN: Rcp_soundz Good rule of thump is go by what fuse size is being used in these amps. The higher the more amperage it pulls, this is what I look at. I'll stick a 300 amp fuse in a potato and sell it to you for $2k. 1991 Mazda 323VERY small build thread here: http://www.stevemead...23-small-build/
Guest Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Nope, nothing else triggers it to get worse. I will have access to a multimeter next weekend though. And no, other than literally just moving the harness/factory wiring around nothing makes it worse/better
jarrius Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 If it only happened when you move the factory harnes around there must be a problem with that. They might have tied something in to it and its grounding or it shorts to another wire. They may have fucked up the factory wiring 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
Guest Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 That's not true, and they never touched the factory wiring, and I'm talking about moving around the after market harness that is connected to the factory harness, which I've replaced to determine it isn't the issue. It could be a lot of other things. It could be something as simple as a diode/ resistor in the alt going bad or loose / dirty connection is causing the back feed or any electronic component in the car (computer a/c bcm) is seeing a ground loop and feeding that back to the powerline in the car. It could be something as simple as a diode/ resistor in the alt going bad or loose / dirty connection is causing the back feed or any electronic component in the car (computer a/c bcm) is seeing a ground loop and feeding that back to the powerline in the car...These are all things brought to my attention that I'll have to check when I get back from my next trip ..womp womp.

Guest Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Do you drive a newer honda? it's a 2007 civic ex ground the rca shield to the deck chassis I've done that already, ground noise gets worse.. thanks though
P4killer_ Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 change amps? try coax rcas vs tp. i have similar issues done all that stuff too sometimes you just have to deal with it.. Guest Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 I tried swapping out amps already, and I would get an isolator instead of buying coax RCAs..I'd really like to solve the problem not mask it..it's pretty apparent that the noise is coming from the 12v line of my car, since when I turn the AC on it gets worse, the noise is being injected into the signal-not the cables.
