_94fleet Posted August 25, 2013 Report Share Posted August 25, 2013 my rear view mirror broke today. i thought if it was going to give it would be the glue but the the mirror broke off from where it adjusts so i still have the base plate glued to my windshield. any ideas on how to take that off? mbdblue Posted August 26, 2013 Report Share Posted August 26, 2013 so the metal tab is still in place? what kind of car? and if you want that metal button off, you have to heat it up (the button, NOT the glass) and carefully grab it with some vise grips. Try to turn it, if it doesn't budge, add a little more heat and try again.....I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you've done it before, since the hotter the glass gets, the more chance you have of it cracking. Also, if it's a turn-style mirror (Honda, Subaru, Saab) they use some heavy duty glue that takes some real patience and slight of hand to get off without breaking a chunk out of the inner layer. If the glass is old, it will crack even quicker. Your best bet is to just leave it on man.
