SPL Audio SPLW-12... PSI Recone?? Is it worth it?

My buddy has a SPL Audio SPLW-12, while i know SPL really isnt good at all and i have seen there cheap woofers, this one looks like a monster! Its a 1Ohm DVC 12" rated at 1100 RMS. I was wondering if it would be worth ripping it apart and throwing a PSI recone in it, the motor is HUGE, thats the only reason i am interested, it doesnt look to be cheap, looks like alittle TLC will make it LOUD!

what did it cost new?

I see it has a 4 inch coil, but being a cheaper brand that doesnt make it a decent 4inch coil.

Im guessing its a very very very tight gap, so you would be limited to a 2 layer coil, something like it had.

So it probably wouldnt be any better then the stock parts.

Is it worth a recone? To me Id say no, to you it maybe.

Just remember your looking at 100-150ish bucks to get the recone, more if your sending it out to be rebuilt which is probably needed since it is an off brand.

Thanks for the speedy reply! Im not sure i didnt buy it, my buddy bought it off the street haha, I saw it and was like HOLY MOTOR BATMAN. I figured id post something here to get more experienced and knowlegeable answers. If it isnt a very tight gap, THEN would it be worth it? to YOU? I know its not your sub/money but I watch your youtube, im familar with you, so i trust your opinion.

if your able to fit a decent 4 layer flat wound or even a 8 layer round wound coil in there with enough clearance Id say go for it because then the possibilities of finding a stronger better coil then stock is a much higher chance and possibly have a slightly stronger woofer then before.

Magnet weight or total sub weight is always not everything, just remember that.

You could have the heaviest woofer but it still be a big clunker

I guess email PSI and tell them what size sub you want it as, or if you want it rebuilt into a smaller or larger sub, and get prices and see what he says. For all I know he may of rebuilt these already and already knows what to do to get the most out of the sub.
