SnowDrifter
Comes undone because of a couple possible reasons Not enough heat -- solder pooled on top, no penetration Connection wasn't clean -- Poor bond. This is why I suggest using tub of rosin flux in addition to rosin core solder ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
SnowDrifter
If you have a picture of the connection that came undone, that would help with determining the cause of failure as well as how to prevent it in the future ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
N9neMillahhh
Usually this is pointless to post, I hope this isn't the case. #1 Check your grounds. Do it again. #2 Check your power, make sure it's connected solid on both ends. Less likely to be much else. If your entire electrical suffers, i.e lights dimming, car dying, etc, you should check your battery terminals and battery. I doubt you have an issue within the amplifier itself. You said "still does it" so I'm guessing it has happened from the time it's been installed, it's more likely something up front than on the amp itself if you had to reconnect everything when you moved it. I apologize, I understand that you saw it pointless to post, but I checked all my trunk connections an was confident in my hood wiring so I wasn't even gonna check that. N9neMillahhh
Yeah I just resoldered it in a bath of that shit, there is no way that wire is comin out. Lol I pulled on it a hard as I could without damaging the wire. The solder was stuck inside the wire but didn't bond the wire to the terminal, that was the problem. Wire was a solid chunk of solder. 02 Lexus IS300 (2JZ FTW) Mids/Highs: JL Audio C5 6.5s all around Mids/Highs Amp: JL Audio HD 600/4 Subs: four SA-8v2s in 3.8cubes @ 32hz Sub Amps: SAZ3k Battery: Huge Interstate Batteries relocated to trunk About 80ft. of 1/0 OFC.... SnowDrifter
Even if you are confident in your wiring: It's not a bad idea to go through and verify that everything is tight once in a while. Heat and vibration can loosen even once good connections. I make sure all mine are tight every oil change. No biggie and it's cheap insurance ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

I feel retardeD but like I said I was too confident in the soldering...gonna go back an patch up all the others tomorrow! 02 Lexus IS300 (2JZ FTW) Mids/Highs: JL Audio C5 6.5s all around Mids/Highs Amp: JL Audio HD 600/4 Subs: four SA-8v2s in 3.8cubes @ 32hz Sub Amps: SAZ3k Battery: Huge Interstate Batteries relocated to trunk About 80ft. of 1/0 OFC.... N9neMillahhh
Thank you, I probably would have, but when I rotated the fuse to look at it, the wire kinda shifted then I saw it 02 Lexus IS300 (2JZ FTW) Mids/Highs: JL Audio C5 6.5s all around Mids/Highs Amp: JL Audio HD 600/4 Subs: four SA-8v2s in 3.8cubes @ 32hz Sub Amps: SAZ3k Battery: Huge Interstate Batteries relocated to trunk About 80ft. of 1/0 OFC.... TheMonolith2001
Glad to see this got fixed. I will usually double/triple secure everything. For example on those terminals I would put a ton of the correct type of solder as mentioned, wrap the shit out of it in electrical tape, and then put one of those rubber boot things on top of that. This way if one thing fails something else is still holding it on.
N9neMillahhh
Yeah I for sure got some tape and heat shrink on it, my amps performing way better too. It still sucks and doesn't do rated unless its 200-300 watts clipped power, ironically it does 1750 clean. So once I get my alt it should all be better. 02 Lexus IS300 (2JZ FTW) Mids/Highs: JL Audio C5 6.5s all around Mids/Highs Amp: JL Audio HD 600/4 Subs: four SA-8v2s in 3.8cubes @ 32hz Sub Amps: SAZ3k Battery: Huge Interstate Batteries relocated to trunk About 80ft. of 1/0 OFC....
