tiny85 Posted October 2, 2013 Report Posted October 2, 2013 I blew my 18" dual 2ohm fi ssd on a rockford fosgate t1000bd In the back of a 99 expedition. what can this basket and magnet be upgraded too besides another ssd? I seen the review of amp test tuesday on the hifonics brutus elite putting out 1700 wrms. Would i be better off upgrading the ssd if possible and keepint my rockford or getting another ssd, reconing the blown one and getting that brutus to push 2? I have plenty of room for a 2 18 box
Facekicker Posted October 2, 2013 Report Posted October 2, 2013 That Brutus won't feed two of those SSDs if they are dual 2's. Each sub would be getting like ~500 watts. If they were dual 4's you could get ~800 each with the Brutus. My .02 get another 1000bd if you get another SSD. edit: because you're -not- going to run that Brutus at .5 ohm 2002 Monte Carlo Started a build log Fi, DC, Mechman, XS Power
Miguels Posted October 2, 2013 Report Posted October 2, 2013 first off that fosgate amp shouldnt blow that sub up.. before you upgrade or recone learn about tuning an amp and setting the gains correctly. most likely you was clipping that sub to hell and thats why it blew on you my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/
tiny85 Posted October 2, 2013 Author Report Posted October 2, 2013 It wasnt exactly all the amps fault my tire 4way fell on the sub and cracked the dust cap and i think something got in it before i realized it and ruined a voice coil. It started sounding funky then just got worse.I blew it like 2 years ago and Im just now getting around to doing something with it. I would recone the dual 2 ohm to 1 and buy another to match. Steve showed that amp doing 1700 at 1ohm thats when i got the idea of running that amp at 1 ohm so each sub would see 800 watts. Which is what my sub was when i bought it way back. The box was like just over 9 cu at 33hz. Sub up slot port back.
n8ball2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Report Posted October 2, 2013 You didnt reslly pay mucb attention to that amp test did you. Your rf amp is by far and away a better amp. tiny85 Posted October 2, 2013 Author Report Posted October 2, 2013 What did i miss on that test? He showed a burst test of over 1700 at 1 ohm and said thats comparable to normal music and also said for 300 bucks it was a decent amp. My rf birth sheet said somethin like 1160 or so if remember right.
fox_racin4 Posted October 2, 2013 Report Posted October 2, 2013 Does your sub have the large pole vent? Or is it a mini UFO btl type motor? I run 1600ish clammped to mine with no issues ( unless i play way under tunning. So as long as you set everything properly you should be fine 1998 gmc extd cab 12 crossfire C710s 4 SAZ-4500s 3 Singer 400A altsbuncha mids/highs Team Asshole
tiny85 Posted October 2, 2013 Author Report Posted October 2, 2013 Mine has the hole. it didnt sound bad when it was installed. With no cap and 0g new koncepts wire i hit 138db on on a term pro mic at my first comp. But i want more out of it. So im considering doing 2 or seeing if i can upgrade the basic ssd to something better and keep my rf and a new box design.
