STEALTH808
that's a lot of port. lol seems almost ridiculous Wait for a few more to chime in as well But you need to remember you You have 30mm Xmas one way at 70%bl (Mech clearance is 50mm) And your over powering them as well Compared to 12mm in the E range There is a lot more that goes into port area then the rule of thumb 12-16 sq" per ft hes right. you're being silly. 120 square inches of port for 4 cube box? Oh dear....John knows what he's talking about and I agree with him.I can't WAIT until "rule of thumb port area" disappears from car audio lingo FOREVER! Dude a sub with THAT much movement needs to have some port. So it's not that it's "silly" to give 120" of port to a 4 cube box, it's silly to not realize that airspace has nothing to do with how much port a driver needs. Xmax, cone area and tuning frequency are what determines port area. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
CleanSierra
And Stealth808, how much port area would you give for 2 X10 in a 4th order? And by 4th order, I'm assuming you mean a bandpass 4th order. The OP IS taking about a 4th order when he wants a regular ported box(4th order) I'm waiting for your port area suggestion for a bandpass Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you. john253a
^look at the tunning as well I recommend 120 for 2off x-12 at 35hz and 105 for 30hz And who said anything about 4cuft for both Not me, That's on the small side for 2off x-12 (I do believe that to be the min recommend for my memory) And op never asked for sizes just recommended port area And anyway he has no hope getting to 2off x-12 in that area So idd do 2off x10
CleanSierra
I'd also do 2 of the X10s. They are a little less cone area than most 10" drivers due to the monster surrounds, but no doubt they are impressive if in the correct enclosure with enough port area and airspace. CleanSierra
I just checked for port area on my own and I show a minimum of 72" of port for a desired tune of 30Hz. That's MINIMUM. I may not go as high as the 120" that John suggested, but I would likely give more than the bare minimum of 72". I'd likely shoot for 85-100" as a starting point. CleanSierra
I actually just looked up the 10s and they don't have less effective Sd like the other sized X series, so that's my bad. The 12" and 15" models, however DO have less effective Sd than the industry standard. On a side note, you've given zero helpful information in this thread except some great one liners. Do you care to actually help the OP with some real knowledge? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
