Awhitewookie Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Overview: (4) subs, each quad 1ohm coils wired to 1 ohm each. Then all wired to 1ohm final. Subs were great but then I got a new job that requires me to drive a lot. So, I took everything out for the mpg's. Because getting punched in the mouth hurts.
Wicks Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 What was your exact resistance reading before the trouble? Looks like your connection to the sub got broken or the coil broke/blew. Like you said, I'd follow the path back to the coil and keep checking with the meter to see exactly where the break is. Your meter leads are going to add ~0.3ohms or so to the measurement so you have to factor that in as well. Awhitewookie Posted October 18, 2013 Author Report Posted October 18, 2013 Oh I forgot to add: When I connect my final leads together and then measure the bottom terminal, it reads 1.8 Resistance before was all the exact same as in the video, but that bottom sub was reading MY BUILD 1998 Ford Explorer 2dr sport 1/0 Big 3 1/0 everything Alpine cda-9884 Crescendo CZ components (2) Crescendo bc2000's (2) Jolt 150ah (2) Yellow top optimas (1) Juicebox black cherry addition (1) Mechman 270 avbm miss my bc5500 and (4) 15's You know why people are ass holes online but not in person? Wicks Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 If the resistance was "exactly" the same as before the trouble then two things have changed. You're not reading resistance at the bottom sub AND you're gaining it somewhere else. If you remove a resistance from a system then the resulting value MUST change. When you're down in the ~1ohm range, very small changes can have a big effect. Check all the connections. You may want to measure each of the connecting wires to make sure they all read as they should. Awhitewookie Posted October 18, 2013 Author Report Posted October 18, 2013 I understand that, which is why I am so confused! I guess it is time to pull the subs and check it all out. jarrius Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 Was going to be my suggestion to pull the subs out and check each coil by it self 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
Wicks Posted October 18, 2013 Report Posted October 18, 2013 I understand that, which is why I am so confused! I guess it is time to pull the subs and check it all out. Yep, sometimes in situations like this its best to pull everything apart, measure everything separately and then reassemble piece by piece, measuring at each step. That will for sure find your problem.
