6th order bandpass

Another thing to consider when considering a 6th is EBP. The subs you're using may not work well in a 6th, which is why I think so many people poo poo the alignment as finicky, when in reality... they're using the wrong sub(s).

Sixth orders are ported alignments and 4th orders are sealed. And just like with conventional ported and sealed alignments, some subs do well in one while others don't and vice versa. If your drivers have an EBP below 50, they won't do well in a 6th unless it's a HUGE cabinet and sixth orders are not small to begin with so, modeling a 6th for a low EBP driver will not be easy unless you know the box has to be giant and have the space for it. Likewise, modeling a 4th for a driver with a high EBP isn't easy either.

I've used 6th orders, primarily to get better performance from small drivers, for years but I've also built them for big subs and I've only ever built one 6th order that wasn't modeled on WinISD Beta. I've also never had to rebuild a 6th order because it didn't sound right. As for WInISD not accounting for cabin gain on 4ths & 6ths... it doesn't account for cabin gain on any alignment in as much as I'm aware. But in the end, a smooth curve on the graph will translate to a smooth curve in the vehicle. Perhaps not perfectly smooth and obviously, not as smooth as the one on paper but, it is certainly a reasonable facsimile. And to compensate for cabin issues, in an SQ build for instance, one just needs to avoid any acoustical gains in and around the vehicle's Fs.

All that said, I'm a huge fan of 6ths and have been for years... until I built a transmission line. But the latter take up hella space so there is still a place for 4th and 6th orders.

you could always pay the 50 bux and get a pwk designs, prob take some of the guess work out of it.

Are pwk designs worth the $50 he charges?

I need to design a 6th order box for my new build, but have no idea how and don't want to waste money on wood.

sorry, but hell no LOL.

Is there any repurable designer who can design a 6th order?

I'll do you a 6th but I don't do cut sheets so you'll only get volumes, tuning and graphs.

But... I'll not charge you anything.

So if you where to design a 6th order for 1 hdc 3 12 what would you tune each port at and what volumes would you use

2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d

140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed)

140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL

142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at)

141 on music.

yea just threw it out there to save the op some cash on wood and just in case his first build didnt come out right he doesnt give up on 6ths cause i know they get down when theyre done right.

I would load off the high side and keep the low side on the biggish side probably 2 cube for the high side or what ever manufacturer suggests for box size... and then go to about 3 cube and the port slightly shorter... for a normal sixth...

if you want quasi load off the low side and mess with the port size till it fits what you want... and go with about a cube on the high side with a huge port.. that's just me...

all displacements are pre port displacements.

Depends on what your goals are and how the driver acts.
