Ok, this might sound like a ridiculous question. I just don't know alot about metals in particular and I was wondering if you could custom cast bullets out of AR500 steel or any other hardened steel? I know you can buy AP rounds, I just thought a more dense hardened metal would be cool to shoot, try out, and see what it would do. i know they make DU rounds, but I highly doubt I could find any and don't really want to mess with them anyways. Thanks for the help guys.

You can make projectiles out of whatever you want. The harder metals are barrel killers though when compared to copper jacketed lead.

A few of the other factors involved are the amount of energy needed to propel the projectile out of the barrel may exceed the safe operating pressure of the chamber so you end up with a kaboom.

The most popular lathe turned bullets are brass or bronze turned .50 pills. to squeeze the highest ballistic coefficient out of them these get spun up at the cost of more than $10 each projectile

watch out, AR500 steel obviously stands for Assault Rifle steel, I hear it's super dangerous. . . . . :sigh::sigh::sigh: we should probably ban all of it! :glare:

Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol

When Alan uses big words I don't understand

It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out.

Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room.

I missed Alan.

RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son.

Tungsten is already used as penetrator cores due to their high density and hardness. I'm not a metallurgist but know that it can be very brittle and maybe that's the reason why it isn't used as a stand alone projectile. I'm sure uncle sam has tested it and if it was good to go as a stand alone we would already have it in one form or another.
