trying to achieve a steady 14.4 volts

Recommended Posts

When trying to achieve 14.4 volts shouldn't I get a 14 volt battery as a second battery and replace the 12 volt under my hood to a 14 volt battery, i also will be upgrading my alternator to a h/o.

I'm no expert but you're going to need a lot more than that.

Firstly, I believe many of the car electronics won't like running higher than 12v.

Also you will need a voltage regulator for the alternator.

Maybe someone else who has more knowledge can help more but good luck!

Dorm room setup:

SQ SDC2.5 12" @ 8 ohms

Klipsch 300 watt home theater sub amp

Marantz 1030 amplifier

Future car build:

Audio Technix 1200.1d

Fi SSD 12 w/ cooling and flatwind coil

6th order dual reflex enclosure

14 volt batteries charge at 16 volts, so I wouldn't go that route. If you want to maintain 14.4 volts you need to have an alternator that will output more than your total draw

Noooo. Do NOT mix 12 and 14v batteries. Get an HO alt(s), bunch of runs to the back. Supercaps do a great job of stabilizing voltage if you have enough alt power.

If you want to know why you don't mix 12 and 14v batts, let me know. I'll expand on that when I get to a computer

Ok thank you for the input so I should go with two good 12 volt batteries and like a 200 amp alt?

A 270a alt should let you hold 14.4v with minimal batteries
