Help me pick a motherboard guys!

Recommended Posts

Alright, I am setting up a new Pc so i can stream games while i play. SO i went with an 8 core cpu that had good scores on video rendering and this is what i have oredered

So I need motherboard recommendations.

Not really too worried about having two PCI-e slots Just want something that isn't going to be a POS and has option for overclocking if i decide to do that later. The cpu is

Socket AM3+

i kind of like this one

Anyway Maybe suggest a video card under $200. I just need to run Diablo 3, so my 9600 does fine but i want some overhead so if i buy a newer game i can at least run it on high quality.

Thanks!

thats a good mobo, maybe look into a 7750, or gtx 650ti boost they are budget friendly cards,

and here's a link of benchmarks for different cards and if you're not shooting for 80 fps and above maybe look into getting an old gtx 550ti

Awesome CPU, I have the same one and it has been strong since day one. That board isnt bad, but it has apparently had some issues running with 8 core processors, though Ive no experience with it. I chose a sabretooth board myself. To me, thats about as good as it gets. Here is a link to my board.

Personally, I prefer nvidia, but I do currently run a radeon hd 7870 in my desktop, and i can do everything on highest settings right now for the games ive played. If you got the budget of up to 200, Id go with a ti card possibly from nvidia. In my experience, nvidia is better at multitasking i guess you could say than amd cards (formerly ati).

there are people with a much better knowledge bank than I about these though. in the folding team thread on here, there was quite a discussion on graphics cards, maybe you could check that out

I kinda like that board, and i can swing 200 for a card, no biggie. I just don't want the cost to spiral out of control. Rather invest in ram

I think the problem with the 8 core is a bios issue, were people would get a board with version 1 bios on but need bios verision 2 to support the new chip( at least most of the times thats what it is) also I almost recommended him that board lol and also AMD's drivers have gotten better than they were before, I have always been an EVGA/nvidia guy but switched to give amd a shot and so far I'm happy:P

RAM is cheap as sin, video card is going to determine performance a lot heavier than the RAM.

Also, as a note. 8GB of RAM is starting to become the new standard amount for games, starting with BF4 I believe.

The motherboard you picked out is good, I personally like ASRock, but Gigabyte is definitely one of the most solid manufacturers.

It's pretty much a tossup beteween the 7870 and the 270 for AMD video cards. very similar performance.

i personally run the 8core processer he chose, with that sabretooth board, 32gb of ram, hd radeon 7870, ssd boot drive and 1.5tb storage drive.

im also rocking the level 10 gaming case, my personal favorite full tower, i wanted the white edition, but settled for black because i got a sweet deal

and so far i havent encountered anything i cant do at max settings

imo 2 choices

Gigabyte 990 FX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128508

or Asus Crosshair V http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131876

edit 1: If you wont be running Crossfire or Triplefire cards the Gigabyte has a UD5 version for about $50 cheaper with fewer/slower PCIE slots.

edit 2: nvm looks like they've put priority on the UD7 and it's cheaper anyway
