Gil Loyola Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 I have a few questions 1. Lets say i have a box that is 10 cubic foot internal volume is that the gross volume of the box. 2. When tunning this box do i plug into the port calculator my box volume of 10 cubic foot or would i have to subtract woofer displacement and bracing first and then put that volume as my box volume
Aj11 Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 would subtract, but ten cubic feet? what are you running? jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)
CleanSierra Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 Give dimensions, that way we can help. You bought as well also provide equipment being used, like subwoofer brand and model, the amp or amps that will be pushing them, and what vehicle. Provide dimensions, what music you listen, and anything you can think of. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

Provide dimensions, what music you listen, and anything you can think of. Outer dimmensions of the box are 36w X 14h X 44 d Thats 10.6 internal ft^3 if the math is correct. Its going inside of a 99 mustang. Woofer is a 18" RE SX maximum ported box recomended is 8cubes. The port i wanted 10w X 12.4h X 26d not sure really how the port calculator works but i put the box volume to be 10.6cubes and then 10w by 12.4h and it gave me 26d to be ported at 30hz i want to hit the lows 35hz - 20hz for like slowed music and chopped I subtracted the port...sub....and bracing and the box is now at 8.16ft^3 For tunning correctly do i use 8 cubes and then when i have the port size tunned for 8cubes then i add that too the box im confused
CleanSierra Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 You Subtract the port before doing the calculation for port length, so go with your 8 cubes. When I do the math, roughly, I get that the port takes up 2.14 cubes( since you don't have to add 1.5" to your port dimension to find displacement because one of your measurements is the wall of the box, therefore you only add .75" for wood thickness of the port wall) leaving you with your 8.46 cubes. 8.46 and THOSE port measurements should put you in the 31-32 Hz range which is perfectly fine. You still have to about for sub and bracing displacement. I have double checked the numbers and they check out. To get down to 30Hz range, another 6-8 inches must be added in port length. You'll eat up half a cubic foot doing that and it's not worth it. Side note: How the hell do you really plan on getting a box THAT big into a Mustang trunk? Obviously it would have to be built in the truck and the sub would be firing up and the trunk lid. This isn't an ideal way to setup your sub stage. You're gonna have trunk rattle like a motherfucker. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Joe X Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 A 18" in a trunk car... good luck... and lots of deadener.
jarrius Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 How are you goin to put a 18in sub in a box that's only 14in tall? Only way I see is sub firing up and that is not really a good idea lol 36w X 14h X 44 d is that your correct dimenrions? 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole

This is only 15" tall, had a guy tell me I couldn't do it. [/url]
slamingsuburban Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 so dont tell you it cant be done lol thats got to be a pain to load
TortoiseShore Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 so dont tell you it cant be done lol thats got to be a pain to load Oh it was lol. Couldnt put the sub on before putting it in so getting the sub through the gap was awful. But it could have been worse. Probably was only possible because Obsidian's need so little space
