RCA Problem

so i recently purchased a sundown saz1000.1d to power the SA-12 that i will be installing as soon as i get the box built. I ran all the 4ga power and ground wire and ran the remote wire off my Kenwood KAC-749s that is powering my mids and highs. Today i thought i would go ahead and set the gains using a multimeter but this didnt go so well as it isnt reading anything coming from the speaker outputs. I used the rca output on my kenwood amp as the input for my sundown amp. Im thinking this is the reason im not getting a reading from the speaker terminals. I would just run the rca's from the head unit but it only has one output and i dont have the money to just go buy a new one. am i doing something wrong or should i get splitters for behind the head unit or what? any help would be appreciated!

Make sure you are using A/C as D/C won't get a reading trying to measure them.

when i put it on AC the highest reading i can get is 8 volts. since the amp is supposed to put out 600 watts at 2 ohms it should get around 34 volts but its not showing up.

If you can scrounge some cash together I recommend upgrading HU's to a kenwood excelon. You can get a usb one from Sonic Electronics that has 3 sets of outputs for $110. You can the one I have (KDC X597) from crutchfield for $160. It has bluetooth and 3 sets of outputs....
