The shops here are full of crap too. One day they try to tell me how much JL sucks and is over priced, the next day they carry JL and its the best in the world and they are having some awesome "sale" for normal price. Told me I should throw away my "piece of crap" Sundown SA 15 and buy a DD instead. Made me laugh (nothing against DD except the crazy price tag at that shop). They do good work on installs but will lie straight to your face to make a buck.

To push big power you need to first have big power. Dual alts is the way to go. If the computer wont let you put out more on that alt you need a reprogram or run a stock alt and a big alt. Have the stock only power what it normally does and have a little battery up front that it charges and then the big alt run everything else. 2 big ones would be better but you could probably get away with one and a big bank. Just make sure to keep them charged.
