Brent Anderson Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 when I look at a 16 volt battery or even the 14 volt battery how can you even charge them when using them in your car/suv/van/truck? thought mostly everything is based on a 12V for your electrics that run. or do people use the 16s 14s some how and place them in a battery isolator just for the music? still don't get how the batterys in the higher Volts even work out for any vehicale?

ChevyBoy95 Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 People will generally run a 12v alt, and a alt with a regulator up to 14v/16v/18v. Then you can run the higher voltage to all your higher voltage batteries and amplifiers, and use the 12v alt to charge the 12v starter battery and run OEM accessories and maybe the headunit. You essentially have 2 independent electrical systems when you do this. Or, you can use a step down module, regulate the alt to 16v, and use the step down and use that lower voltage (ex. 12v) to run the OEM stuff, and 16v to everything else.
