fiberglass sub enclsoure build

Recommended Posts

Alright, my brother wanted a little system, and i had a sub and amp left over from other installs that i did. I'm the retarted bass head in the family, and he just wanted a little bit of pound for his car. So this is the build for his car. My first fiberglassing project, so if it looks like sh*t oh well... ;)

The template to cut out around the curves of his car...

Posted Image

I then took the template and cut it out on to some cardboard to make sure it fit right

Posted Image

Here you can see the curves of the trunk

Posted Image

from cardboard to 3/4" mdf

Posted Image

here is the mdf test fit into place

Posted Image

the seats are at an angle so i went ahead and angled the end of the mdf so it could fit nice and snuggly against the seats

Posted Image

Posted Image

i added some duraglass which makes everthing pretty solid

Posted Image

Posted Image

here i cut out the ring for the woofer, it is for a 12" audiobahn sub(i know it sucks but its an old sub, and like i said my brother doesn't really care)

Posted Image

layed down some aluminum foil, and fiberglassed the sides for a nice clean fit

Posted Image

for some reason the resin came out lookin greenish on the camera, anyway i layed down 3 layers of fiberglass mat..

Posted Image

thats all for now, i hope you guys like it i will post more pics tommorw ;D

thanks fellas, i got more pics comin tommorw. ;Dquestion, what's the best way to secure the box?? i don't want it flying around in an accident or somethin. should i make a "dance floor" and attach the enclosure to that, or directly to the metal of the car?? also, if i do bolt it to the car, should i use bolts, or screws ??? i need some expert advice...

here's some more pics...

one side the amp is going to be mounted, the other side a cap. i know it doesn't look the greatest but it is sturdy, and it will be all covered over later

Posted Image

making the enclosure part air tight

Posted Image

fiberglass and resin now layed over

Posted Image

covered everything in some grille cloth

Posted Image

resin on the grille cloth

Posted Image

i must have measured wrong cause the end of the amp didn't sit on the wood, so i had to add these little mounting points for the amp

Posted Image

here i started laying the fiberglass mat

Posted Image

Posted Image

layed some duraglass over everything

Posted Image

sanded down the duraglass

Posted Image

layed some rage gold to make everything nice and smooth

Posted Image

sanded down the rage gold

Posted Image

sprayed some grey primer so i can see the imperfections and fill em in

Posted Image

test fitting in the car, before i lay some vinyl over it, lookin pretty good to me

Posted Image

i did some more sanding and then layed the vinyl down, it was pain in the ass to get it nice and smooth around the curves, but here are some final pictures. the car was already wired so all i had to do was install it and thats it..

Very Nice bro, you should be proud of it.how does it sound?

thanks man, i appreciate that. ;Dits far from perfect, but like i said, it was my first time, and i learned a whole lot. As for the way it sounds, it sounds reallly good, it is louder than i thought it would be. It's a small box, sealed, perfect for my brother, but for me i like alot more bass, i like my system alot better.  ;D
