sundown escort
Hey guys. I am having an issue. I have an 01 escort zx2. I have two 75ah agm batteries. Ups or usp? Both fairly new. One is in the trunk. I have the big three and one positive run, cheap temporary wire. Also a singer 230 amp alt. I have had this setup for almost 3 months without any issues. Almost a week ago I went to start the car and it was dead. I charged it and started it. Checked all the grounds and they were good so I thought it may have been because it is 10 degrees out. Didn't drive it for 4 days and had to jump it yesterday. Drove it for an hour and turned it off at 9:30. Wouldn't start at 8 this morning. So I was too dead to start after 12 hours and ample charging time. Seems like the alt is good because I can drive forever. I couldn't imagine the batteries being junk because it showed no prior issues, happened suddenly and they are pretty new. I haven't played the system in over a month too. Any help would be great. Thanks
pa-pa-platypus
bad cells in the batteries or you have a parasitic drain on your electrical my two guesses This isn't teeball. YOU DO NOT GET A TROPHY JUST BECAUSE YOU SHOW UP. sundown escort
Ok. You are on the same track that I am. Tonight I will be unhooking the amp and see if it starts tomorrow. If I don't I will remove the batteries and test them. From there I don't know. Starter solenoid? I couldn't think of anything else
pa-pa-platypus
id almost lean towards a bad battery first.. it'd take a hell of a drain to get that much storage capacity down enough to not start the truck.. but it is possible This isn't teeball. sundown escort
Do you think taking the bad battery out would still salvage the other? Im sure at most its only one
Rich Schenk
Could be parasitic drain or bad battery or batts. get batteries tested somewhere that is where I would start. Then if they are good charge them up. Then I would check for your drain. On 3/28/2014 at 4:22 PM, KyLar96 said: Its all about the music anyway..... sundown escort
Where do I get them tested? Is this something I can do myself? More in-depth process than putting a multi meter to them individually?
MECHMAN
Where do I get them tested? Is this something I can do myself? More in-depth process than putting a multi meter to them individually? To test them properly the will have to sit for about 24 hours to get the proper resting voltage. I would also check the alternator to make sure it isn't staying on after the vehicle is turned off 1-888-MECHMAN www.Mechman.com [email protected]
sundown escort
Thanks for the advice. Could the alternator staying on create such a large parasitic drain?
sundown escort
Also what could cause the alternator to stay on?
