If go with the sub and amp Kranny pointed out, you can beat the SQ price. As far as HU there are tons on the market for under $160 that have tons if features so just take your pick. For the component sets you could go with Crescendo CZ 6.5" and 5.25" both for $230. I just put the 6.5" in my front and they do not disappoint. I have a MB Quart 800.4 powering them but depending on the price the SQ Q4-120 might be cheaper. Good luck and look forward to the build.

It all depends on what you want out of your system. I mean, you have a $1800 budget but you may be really satisfied with a system under $1000.. Are you focusing on sound quality, just the system pumping out crazy bass, or a blend between the two? Do you mainly listen to bass heavy music like rap or dubstep, or do you focus on rock & country etc? Depending on what you want out of your system will dictate what kind of equipment/setup that you need to roll with. & you said that you wanted a 10 or a 12. That narrows your price down quite a bit depending on what you want it to do. How much power are you wanting to run etc? There's way to many variables involved for a more accurate recommendation for what your looking for. From my own personal experiences I've had good luck from Rockford Punch Series. I know it's not the best of the best, but I've had clean, loud results from them, and their very inexpensive compared to your maximum budget. Sundown makes some good quality stuff to from what I've seen for a good price on the e line for subs. But if you have experienced or had higher end equipment before, then these may not be the best choice for you. But to someone starting out or someone on a budget. These will deliver pretty good results based off of what you paid for them. But here's a list of a pretty decent setup that you could make so you can save all of that money and still have a system that will sound great all around for the money.

Head Unit: Kenwood X397 (Excelon) around $100 shipped

6.5 Components: Rockford Fosgate P165-S $80-$100 for a pair depending on where you get em

5.25's: Rockford Fosgate P152 around $50 for a pair

Sub: Rockford Fosgate P3 12" $130-$140 600 watts rms, Fosgate P3 10" $115-$125 $500 watts rms, Sundown Ev2 12" $109 500 watts rms, Sundown Ev2 10" $100 500 watts rms. Any of these subs are good for the money and performance, not the best, but they are satisfactory I promise. For what you pay, they will surprise you, depending on the app, box, amp, etc..

Amp: I don't think you would need an amp powering your door speakers IMO, it would be sufficient enough with just one of those subs up there. But to power one of those subs up there, I am a firm believer in Rockford power and quality and always will.. Never had a single problem with any of their amps and every line of their amps is underrated, even the prime series. Budget wise I would recommend the newest prime r500, not the previous line up, the newest. And get a dual 4 ohm version sub and wire down to 2 ohms because that's all that that amp is stable for. You can get one for around $120-$130 brand new. Power series is the best they have but it costs an arm and a leg to get one lol.. Their punch amps are awesome, for a punch amp I would recommend a P500X1BD if you wanted to run a dual 2 sub wired to an ohm, or a P400X1 if you wanted to run a dual 4 sub wired to 2 ohms. The P500X1BD would run you about $200 and get the PLC2 remote with it for about $20, you will definitely want it, and the P400X1 would run you about $170 and get the PLC2 remote with it also. The remote with the clipping indicator. These amps basically have a technology called clean setup, it's hard to set your system wrong with it. You can check out some of the videos Rockford made for them, and they had an o scope beside it to prove that it works.

Box: Depends on your music preference, sealed will be the easiest to build and give a flat frequency response, and Is typical in a sound quality setup. Doesn't mean ported sounds bad because it doesn't if everything is properly tuned and done right, but ported is always going to give you increased output and allow your sub to reach it's potential. If you was to pick either of those subs, 2 cu ft tuned at 33-35 hz would do great in just about any app. I'm not going to mention bandpass boxes, because I have no real world experience with them, but from what I read they are typically for spl and zero sound quality. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I've read in many places. Depending on where you live and what your prices are for mdf and other supplies needed. Box should be under $100 to build. L ports are very nice if made right btw.

Wiring for your amp: Rockford Fosgate RFK4X, 4 gauge wire kit, it has everything that you need, power, ground, remote wire, 30 ft of speaker wire, fuse holder, everything. Around $70. This is an awesome kit, I've had mine over a year and it's been very good to me. Very high quality wiring, and true to gauge, and affordable. Many would probably agree with this wiring kit. Highly recommend it for any setup that you want.

All together in a nutshell your system would cost you around $780, I priced that by the p3 12, and the p500x1bd, plus everything else at what it would cost at the most. But if you wanted a sundown sub or the p400 or r500 for the amp etc etc it would cost less. So at $780, you just saved around $1000 for your system that you could spend or save for something else that you need, and you still have a quality system on a budget. All of that was just a suggestion based on what I know about car audio. I know there's a ton better that you could have, but I'm highly satisfied with equipment like this, and you may too. But there's a lot of guys on here that know more about it than I do, and they will have awesome suggestions too. I'm just trying to help you save a little money and still come out on top lol..

One more thing, If you wanted a little bit more high quality and rugged subwoofer around the same rms for about an extra $100, I would grab a sundown sa 10 or 12.. It's sure to please.

How do you plan to listen to your system you said fishing rig I'm guessing you want to listen to tunes while you fish .in that case there are a few things missing and it would almost be a bit more than what you want to get setup .get back with me I'd like see what your trying to get going and help if I may

I hope to not be dazed by thingsthatglitter if i ever have more wealth than the low income.
