My DC Audio Journey in SPL

Recommended Posts

First off wanted to say thank you to Rusty for an awesome product support and I appreciate being part of team DC Audio.

As a background I was an old school sq guy I know one of those guys. Well recently I decided to get back into car audio. I work a ton of hours and needed something that would get my mind off work and just give me an outlet. I used to do a lot of car audio shows and thought what better way. Well at first I must admit I was not going to go back to show but at one of the local shops seen a flyer for one and said to myself why not go and compete in stock sq. So I went it was a big event and I got hooked again well I should say me and my teammate got hooked again. And I thought why not try and actually do spl since I used to do some spl with my old sq truck.

Time to back track and get to what people want so my first setup was 2 dc m3 8s under my seat on my crew cab titan very impressive by the way. So figured we have a meter lets play around and see what this does. And pre note the 2013 Nissan titans are not a fan of the spl meter they are definitely not a first choice for spl but I am determined to get it loud\.

So 2 8s under the seat of my titan on 750 watts did a 129.00 just a little slot port. So I figured ok lets up the freq and change it out to a 4 in aero port. So after some fiber glassing and reporting we tested again 129.9 oh and by the way all the testing is meca style at the headrest since most of the comps in my area are meca.

So spl went up a bit and I was thinking to myself wtf haha. So I guess the competitive side in me took over. So just so happened to have a nice bandpass for a single 8. Why not try it. Was able to up the freq and it did 133 improvements so decided sub should be fine and did the same enclosure and put that 8 on 1k and 135 pops up ok now were making some progress and that is how it started will post up further results and later when I can figure out how to upload pics I will start uploading some pics.

One of the major issues in my truck is super nasty roof flex its crazy and also keeping the factory look.

Next on the list was some testing with a 12. So after firing the sub up to the drivers side passenger side down and pretty much the same thing with the port windows up down doors open every possible combo in my truck here is the results

1 dc xl 12 on 750 equals of course in my truck 137.2 not so good but working on it

next same sub and box on 1200 and it was a 1.85 cubed box with an aeroport actually a test box did 139.1

1.5 with 6 inch aeroport did 138.9 dangit thought I would go up and this is with testing testing testing different freq

so now the next step was to take 2 12s level 4s and I made a mistake with going huge port and bigger box my idea was to start with big box use it as a test box and adjust the port as necessary. Well on 750 watts it only did a 139.1 no biggie just playing around going to start shriking and playing with freq and make adjustments so for fun threw them on 1200 140 just not cutting it. so I started to shrink down the box because of the power or lack of my spl score actually went down. So instead of messing around I thought well the bandpass box did well with the 8 forget this shrinking down stuff and lets build a 6th order for fun

First test with the 6th order was 140.9 with 750 watts nice then 141.7 with 1200 watts ok now making some progress

Now its time to do some wring upgrades and give the alt some better grounds and power. Ran 2/0 gauge wire upgraded the wire from alt to batter and now lets throw in a bigger amp.

Results 143.5 off roughly 1750 with the roof flappin in the wind ha. Now on to the next show figured for fun and of course to rep dc audio would go to a usac show.

decided lets wire the amp to 1/2 ohm and get some real power to them same box did a 146.9 and the roof is a HUGE ISSUE

Stay tuned for pics and my continuing journey with dc going to do some testing this weekend and upgrades hopefully and need to do my roof deaden it and them try and external spl deck see what happens upgrading my altand adding another battery as I already have an additional one. My quest to the low 50s in the titan will continue

Rusty

like I emailed you my truck is weird everytime we go up just a little bit in power the truck is coming alive for sure. So the plan is to clamp to see what power we are actually getting as my electrical is still being upgraded and that is coming as well. Deadening the roof which should make a huge difference for sure but we will see what the difference is on the meter. Then wire in the podium and get a solid 5 volt out and see what changes that does compared to the stock deck. Depending on what the numbers are and how close we are to getting to the goal we will either keep pushing orrrrrrrrrr lol add in another 12 and go 4th order.

Tundra yes very determined I am a very competitive person and like to strive to do my best. Also wanted to share my journey with others to maybe help them with ideas and share some of the testings trials wins and losses lol

And just think this is the points chase vehicle while the other is getting painted. But figured going to do meca and usac finals anyway might as well try and have some fun with the truck as well.

By the way whats the best way to add pics and vid
