sextiva Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Okay first off i have 2 Type R 15's 4ohm in the back of a 96 grand cherokee. My box design is a slot port, subs up port back. The dimensions of my rear cargo area are 42.5(W)x19.5(height of backseat)x28(deep). My box dimensions will be 42.5x19.5x26(externally). When calculating internal dimensions I subtracted 1.5 from the heigth and depth and 2.25 for the width when calculating the subwoofer chamber since there is technically 3 pieces of birch .75" thick. That equals 9.5 cubes internal chamber after sub displacement, and 1.2 cubic feet for my port(10.7 total). 4.4x18.26(deep) port area which should produce 28hz. Are my calculations correct and is 9.5ft³ too much for those subs? I have 1 alpine amp per sub that is rated just at RMS of the subwoofers(750).
sextiva Posted February 7, 2014 Author Report Posted February 7, 2014 4.3x18x26 it won't let me edit.
Nightshade Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Box is way too big and tuning is way too low. At most you will need 3 cuft per sub for a 15, especially an Alpine type r. Also I prefer to use aeroports instead of slots but that is my preference. I have found aeros to be louder in most cases. If it were me I would do a 6 cube after displacement box with 2 6" aeros tuned to 35hz. I don't like tuning lower than 35hz in my enclosures but again that is preference. 2013 VW Jetta GLI 2.0 Turbo 1 Sundown Audio SCV2000 1 Sundown Audio X15 V2 1 XS Power D3100 Audio Control LC6i Stock Deck 146.4 sealed on the dash at 37hz 2001 Focus ZX3: RETIRED Team Sundown Audio, Team XS Power, 2 time NSPL Car 3601-Up Champion, 2 time NSPL Car Hardcore ChampionHighest NSPL Scores to date:154.3db on the dash sealed at 46hz, 156.2db in the kick at 46hz155.2db unofficial on dash at 43hz
Aj11 Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 i would tune them to 28hz again that's just me, and the biggest i would go is 3.5cubes net. and since your not giving them the beans(full rms) I'd go with 3.5 to drop the power rating. i hate ported enclosures again that's just me. i like vented just hate the way ports look even if they are louder just don't think there sexy jvc deck stinger 1800 front hc 2000 kinetic rear 2 runs of 1/0g big 3/4 ct 60.4 2 ct 1400.1 ct EXO 15 d1 lots of deadner type r comps front stage 6 kicker tweets rear stage lots of great stuff coming soon ho alt more bats ct comps for front stage more deadner sweet amp rack lots of L.E.D lights new deck (thinking 80 prs, or flip out)
bbeljefe Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 The box isn't too large, nor the tuning too low if your goal is low end extension rather than SPL. But I'm wondering about the partition. If you have two chambers, then you need two ports. You only mentioned one port. If it's two ports, then you only have ~ 4 cubes per sub. I didn't check to see if tuning if correct because that would be senseless without clarification of the things mentioned above. sextiva Posted February 15, 2014 Author Report Posted February 15, 2014 It's shared Chamber single port design. I could change it if needed but first box so I was keeping it simple. Subs up port drivers side.
