Bass4Lyfe
I'm almost ready to start ordering stuff for my car ... one last question ... how do I know what gauge the factory wiring is on my car? I've looked EVERYWHERE online and couldn't find it ... thanks in advance and sorry for the multiple help topics Quote ~Matthew 1998 Toyota Camry XLE V6 3L (1) ScyTek Astra 4000RS-2W-1 2-Way Remote Start Alarm with Shock and Proximity (1) 20% Tint All Around (Gately Audio) (1) 250 Amperage HO Alternator (1) Big 3 Done In 1/0 (2) Kinetik HC2400 Power Cell (1) Alpine IVA-D106 Receiver (1) Peripheral Video Bypass Device (4) Alpine SPS-17C2 Speakers (1) Alpine KCE-422i iPod Control Interface (4) Sheets Dynamat Extreme; for speakers (1) 10 Square Feet Hushmat (Trunk & Rear Deck) (4) DC Audio Level 4 15" D2 Subwoofer w/ Level 5 Coils (1) Wall Built By David, Tuned to 32 Hz (1) Rockford Fosgate T40001bd Amplifier (1) Stinger 1/0 Wiring (2 runs of + 2 runs of -) (1) Stinger Volt Meter
mrwigglezdj
well most will be 14-20 ga wire, what wire are you wanting to work with in general? Bass4Lyfe
well, i want to see if i have to upgrade the factory wiring to accomodate the extra watts that'll be going to the speakers. Any idea where I can find the exact info? 14-20 is a pretty good range. .. but at least it gives me a ballpark! Aaron813
If i was you i would just buy a spool of Stinger speaker wire and run all new wire i would run like 12 gauge are you going to be adding an amp and a component set
Bass4Lyfe
i know it's usually a good idea ... but with only 50 watts to each speaker (this is NOT talking about subs yet .. just asking about speaker wires) wanted to see if i had to run new wires Quote ~Matthew 1998 Toyota Camry XLE V6 3L (1) ScyTek Astra 4000RS-2W-1 2-Way Remote Start Alarm with Shock and Proximity (1) 20% Tint All Around (Gately Audio) (1) 250 Amperage HO Alternator (1) Big 3 Done In 1/0 (2) Kinetik HC2400 Power Cell (1) Alpine IVA-D106 Receiver (1) Peripheral Video Bypass Device (4) Alpine SPS-17C2 Speakers (1) Alpine KCE-422i iPod Control Interface (4) Sheets Dynamat Extreme; for speakers (1) 10 Square Feet Hushmat (Trunk & Rear Deck) (4) DC Audio Level 4 15" D2 Subwoofer w/ Level 5 Coils (1) Wall Built By David, Tuned to 32 Hz (1) Rockford Fosgate T40001bd Amplifier (1) Stinger 1/0 Wiring (2 runs of + 2 runs of -) (1) Stinger Volt Meter
mrwigglezdj
just speakers ran of a head unit or small amp? if its only 50 watts per speaker i personaly wouldnt go thru the trouble of rewireing but thats just me Quote Americas loudest work van2006 iasca heavyweight bassboxing champion at 150.4 db with 60second average TL8 memphis PR15s,12 memphis PR6.5's coax,4 memphis PR 1inch tweets
Bass4Lyfe
yeah, tha'ts what i thought. well let me give you more information ... i originaly was going to run my component sets off of an external amp - but because i'm getting a like 1,000 dollar head unit (without add ons like bluetooth, etc .. .) it has a high power amp in it - 50 w x 4 channels @ 4 ohms ... it's the alpine IDA-D105 or something like that. I WAS going to get the P400-4, 400 watt amp figuring 100 watts x 4 channels is good ... but it turns out it only gives 50 out at 4 ohms so i figured why not NOT spend more $$$ on a higher wattage amp and see how the after-market head unit sounds ... right? my component sets are the 6.5 inch 2x woofer 2x 1 inch tweeter 2x crossover by RF and the 3-way 6x9s by RF .. I wanna run all RF Speakers and the Alpine head unit so what do we all think about wiring? is it worth it to replace it? i just really want to know what gauge the factory wiring is because if its 18 or even 20 i should be okay .. 22 would be bad .. mrwigglezdj
well if youre puting that kind of money into the radio alone, while you have the dash apart it would probaly be best to just replace with 20 dollars worth of good ga wire so you know 100% your wires up to par of the challenge, no scense in cuting any corners with a 1000 dollar deck Quote Americas loudest work van2006 iasca heavyweight bassboxing champion at 150.4 db with 60second average TL8 memphis PR15s,12 memphis PR6.5's coax,4 memphis PR 1inch tweets
Bass4Lyfe
yeah, good point. I'ts not the money I'm worried about but the running of the wires I'm not sure if I'd be able to do it correctly and neatly. thanks for your input though I'll keep that in mind and probably end up running new wires if I can't find those damn specs on the factory wiring! because if they're like 18-20 gauge or larger i'd be set as i am thanks alot man for the help Quote ~Matthew 1998 Toyota Camry XLE V6 3L (1) ScyTek Astra 4000RS-2W-1 2-Way Remote Start Alarm with Shock and Proximity (1) 20% Tint All Around (Gately Audio) (1) 250 Amperage HO Alternator (1) Big 3 Done In 1/0 (2) Kinetik HC2400 Power Cell (1) Alpine IVA-D106 Receiver (1) Peripheral Video Bypass Device (4) Alpine SPS-17C2 Speakers (1) Alpine KCE-422i iPod Control Interface (4) Sheets Dynamat Extreme; for speakers (1) 10 Square Feet Hushmat (Trunk & Rear Deck) (4) DC Audio Level 4 15" D2 Subwoofer w/ Level 5 Coils (1) Wall Built By David, Tuned to 32 Hz (1) Rockford Fosgate T40001bd Amplifier (1) Stinger 1/0 Wiring (2 runs of + 2 runs of -) (1) Stinger Volt Meter
