RooTxBeeR
Are you running on an SSD? If you're on an SSD then defrag is next to useless. The added speed benefit of defragging an SSD is next to nothing and you're just chewing up write cycles and killing the drive faster by running it. If you want a third-party tool to defrag a hard drive with then you can run Defraggler. It's made by Piriform (same company that makes CCleaner) and is free. https://www.piriform.com/defraggler It should be noted that Windows 7 and 8 run scheduled defrags on the hard drive at least once a week, which is likely why your manual defrags finish so quickly. Windows 8 also better supports SSD's by running a TRIM command and clearing out blocks of memory that have been flagged for garbage collection to keep the drive running smoothly. Good info to know, thank you. I know of piriform didn't know they made that, will look into it. And no I am running a HDD, but will be running a SSD soon so it's good to know. beaker
You shouldnt ever run a defrag on an SSD, it will slow down and lower the life of the drive. Microsoft bought Perfect Disk after NT4.0 when Windows 2000 came out to integrate into Windows. Win7 will defrag at idle or at night when the compter is on. I dont use software to keep my PC clean, I know the registry and Windows well enough to look at it and know what should and shouldnt be there. I do run antivirus but its an enterprise solution. Another way to keep your PC clean when you're surfing not so legit sites is to use a browser without flash enabled. Or Java.

Only thing that sucks about this, is everytime I clean my junk files, I have to re allow everything lol. And kudos to knowing the registry that well, wish I could say the same.
