Amp stays in protection

I just got a Sundown SA-10 D4. Installed t in the existing box and wired for 2 ohm. My amp (Kicker CX600.1) turned on ran for a few minutes then went in protection mode.

Volume wasn't up loud and the amp never got hot. Gain was previously set with a multimeter and never had any issues. Now everytime I start the truck and turn on the stereo, the amp stays in protection. Even does it when the wires to the sub are taken out of it.

Any suggestions?

Bad ground or some sort of loose connection maybe.

Don't set gains with a multimeter. That doesn't work.

So I read in another forum to try jumping a wire from the power to the remote to see if it would come on without the protection on. Against better judgment I tried it, accidently hit the ground, got sparks and smoke. Hooked up all the wires again and now it works.

I'm not sure what to think lol.

Thanks for the replies
