Really dumb question... I think?

Recommended Posts

i have 2 dvc 4ohm subs inverted so changing the resistance is waseasy for me. if you guys tell me what to do I'll run out change the wiring And make a video. i know your talking about dual 2ohm but you should still see the affect. i know my amp can take .5ohm so no worries on the low end. i can make a short video

Oh ok you have dvc4 subs, I misread it. But yeah the same method applies and you'll see 1.6Ohms.

It's easy enough to wire it up, you'll only need to change one sub. As for how to do it... That's a little hard explain in text so just look up a sub wiring diagram series vs parallel and do one of each

all i need to do is run one at 2 one at 8 correct? then put both to my mono Amp right? I'll go do it now. I'll use a 40hz test tone should help see movement better

sorry 30hz

This is simple ohm's law calculations. It is bad to have different impedance subs because each will receive different amounts of power. If the subs are free aired or have separated chambers, they will definitely have different excursions. The one receiving higher power fail first, then the other will likely fail shortly after because all of the current will then be only flowing through the remaining sub.

Ohm's law: V = I*R (Voltage = Current * Resistance)

How to find resistance in parallel: (R1-1 + R2-1 + R3-1 + R4-1 + ... + RN-1)-1 Where R = resistance of each coil, and you may have as many R as you like

Simple example coming from a Physics textbook:

I was doing Physics work but got a little distracted and saw some misinformed people... Let the truth be spoken!
Plus I had to stay to see the video, which does back up the math behind it. His sub at 2 ohms should have been getting 4 times as much power as the one at 8 ohms, and that's what it looked like. Car audio is practically a science, do it right and you get loud.
