randyman78596 Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 Just wondering if I did something wrong, built this box , 2.5 cubic feet @35 hertz...sounds great hits every note but the sub closest to the port moves just a lil more than the one on the very right..they are wire parallel to a mono amp. Is it unloading? Is it OK to leave?http://imgur.com/f22LYth
randyman78596 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Report Posted February 27, 2014 A little more info, the port is an L port ,it goes back about 9 inches then turns right about 8 inches...port is 3 inches wide box is 44 wide...13 square inches of port per cube..subs are not out of phase...they are audiobahn natural series subs about 10 years old never used..dual 4 ohm wired parallel @1ohm
Joe X Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 Engage your subsonic filter to 30Hz or so and see if that helps.
randyman78596 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Report Posted February 27, 2014 Do I need to play a 30 hz tone and turn the filter up until there's no bass? Let's say I try that and it doesn't fix it? This happens at higher frequencies at lower volumes as well...
Joe X Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 Just engage the filter and the play some music see if it improves, if there's very little difference in movement maybe is no problem.
randyman78596 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Report Posted February 28, 2014 ok will do...this is the amp i have...variable filter pots. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_33273_Massive-Audio-D-1200-D1200.html
randyman78596 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Report Posted February 28, 2014 this is the stereo i have and i have no idea how to set all the filters and settings on it...manual doesnt explain it either.... http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_65871_Kenwood-eXcelon-KDC-X497.html have kenwoof performance series 6x8 3 ways in all doors
Joe X Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 The head unit usually does not have subsonic, it comes down to the knob in the amp.
randyman78596 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Report Posted February 28, 2014 adjusting the low pass filter made no difference, tried at different volumes and different tracks...the ones sub closest to the port has just a tad more excursion...thats also the sub thats hooked up first to the wire coming from the amp...is it something to just accept and roll with it??no damage will occur?
Joe X Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 All boxes with a side port have this issue to some extent, if it's minimal then no issue, you can swap the subs from time to time, a port in the middle box can eliminate this issue altogether, if your subs have different degree of break in, this can happen even without unloading. Just curious of the full external dimensions of the box, port width and model of the subs just to check your box specs and check where the port inner end is at, if you have the time post them up.
