Xplay75
What difference does a wider port make.all prefab box's ive come across all have like 2 1/2 inch wide ports.Im planning a build for 1 ab xo 15.box will b around 4.5 cubes after the port displacement. Im gonna tune it around 30hz I want to get the lower bass and im not shure how wide of a port I should go with slot port
biscuitownz
If you keep the box size the same but widen the port, it'll raise the tuning.
Xplay75
Ok I understand that.so if I made a wider port, id have to make it longer to lower the tune I understand that to but whats the difference in sound or airflow if one port is 2.5 inches wide vrs a 4 inch port both tuned the same
Triticum Agricolam
The width of the port isn't what's important. What matters is the area of the port. As long as your port has enough surface area for the driver/s you are using it won't make much difference if it is 4" wide, 2.5" wide or 6" wide. Most prefab boxes have ports that don't have enough area IMHO. Xplay75
Ok what should I do because the American bass website dosent give me any recommended specs on port size or max cubes and im gonna go with a 4.5cobe box after port displacement tuned to 30hz but I have no idea on port width.any one have any idea how much port area I should go with subs a ab xo 15 and its only 1 sub
Triticum Agricolam
40 Sq in would probably be a good number for that sub. Seymore
Yeah, port questions and box questions are asked really frequently on this forum. you can't ever really have "too much" port anyhow, just as long as your net's good for your subs. 2001 Civic LX SedanPioneer DEH-7500HD Big 3 in 1/0 Knu CCARockford P500-4RF Punch P165-S in doorsRF Punch P165 in rear deckFront doors deadened with DamplifierNextSQ's new HDS208 8" in a T-line whenever it FINALLY COMES OUT I CAN FINALLY AFFORD IT Bend over and I'll show ya. how is it 2 days work? half a day at most, i may be an idiot, but im not an idiot.
