Late Boomer Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I'm sure this is a stupi question to most of you but hopefully someone. Will explain it to the slow guy here. I just got an email from re audio regarding the two xxx 12s I'm installing in my dakota. They recommend 7.5cuft for a common box which I understand but they say 56 sq/in of port 12 in long. For some reason that's where I'm getting g lost. Am I making a port apx 4 1/2 inches deep and 12 inches long?
bkolfo4 Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 It means the opening of the port will have an area (height x width) of 56 sqin, and the port will be 12" long. Example: a port 16" H x 4" W and 12" deep. That is a big box for a pair of 12's, and their suggestion gives a 35 Hz tuning. Not what I would do. . . crimsonsoljuh Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Yeah thats big for 2 12s id go half that size If its too loud your too old
Joe X Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 2.2 cubes net per sub to 34 Hz is their published suggestion, I'd give more port area depending on tuning.
truthsayer Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 It means the opening of the port will have an area (height x width) of 56 sqin, and the port will be 12" long. I think what bkolfo4 meant was an example for you would be 14''h x 4''w and 12'' depth. That would give you your 56 sqin of port. truthsayer
Late Boomer Posted March 3, 2014 Author Report Posted March 3, 2014 Go with half that size box or half that size port or both
jarrius Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 the 7.5 cubes could be gross wich with sub and port displacement should drop it what 2 cubes or so? if thats correct that is aobut 5 cubes for the 2 12's. From what i just read on RE's websight 2.2 cubes per sub (after displacement i would assume) so you would want about a 5cube box if i am correct. BTW each sub displacement is .25 so 2 is .50 cubes 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
bkolfo4 Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 If they meant 7.5 cuft gross, then the 56 sqin port that is 12" deep will take up ~.4 cuft. Subs take up .5 cuft. Let's estimate it leaves 6.5 cuft net. Still too big and makes the tuning even higher. Better start from scratch and forget their suggestion. 5 cuft net with 70-80 sqin of port tuned to 34 Hz would work great for a pair of those.
