SiLvO Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 Ok so my brother had 2 Alpine MRP-M500s, each hooked up to their own sub (Sony Xplod XS-GTX121LW 4ohm 350rms) on seperate power and ground wires (one set 4GA one set 8GA) , but with a common ground which is the rear seatbelt post which was sanded down until it shined. All the wires are run down drivers side of car. I was outside when I heard my brother coming down the street, his subs were bumpin just as loud as they normally did, when he pulled in the driveway I went to work on getting one of the Alpine amps out (which was mine, I let him borrow it to see what difference 100 extra watts would make to the subs). I unscrewed the terminals on my amp and put wire nuts on both the power and ground wire and ziptied them out of the way. I wired his amp back to 2ohms and turned the car on to make sure everything worked. I heard no sound from the subs and the blue light ontop of the amp just flickered to the peaks in the song. I checked fuses on the amp, the power wire's fuse, disconnected the fuse on the unused 8GA wire, disconnected the unused 8GA ground wire, wired the amp to just 1 sub at 4ohms, played with the dials on the amp, tried both sets of RCAs that were there. I just can't figure out what would cause that?? I even tried hooking back up the other amp and the same problem happened to that one! The amps never even got warm, and both were working perfectly fine prior to me disconnecting one of them. So on another note, I tried hooking up the Alpine amp i took out in my car and the light on top didn't flicker but the amp made my sub play very quiet when my Comp 12 should have been pounding on 300w, hooked back up my Legacy Predator amp and the Kicker sounded fine. Any Ideas guys??

Guest Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 if it happens to both amps, its a wiring issue. solder joints/crimps on the wire lugs that are on the power/ground wires could be bad/loose. connections at the fuse holder. internal break in the power/ground wire.
SiLvO Posted August 13, 2014 Author Report Posted August 13, 2014 Hey thanks for the advice guys, sorry for the late reply, don't login to the computer much at all. I re-did all of the wiring in his car, cleaned everything up with a better ground and everything is working good so far, still not entirely sure which component was the root cause of that issue but it's non-existant for now
