Nealon14 Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 hey guys i am trying to design an box for my 2 sa 12's. i posted on here not too long ago with a design that used aero ports and it wasnt good, so i am going to try to build a slotted enclosure for them. ok first off i changed the power i will be using 1000 watts of rms power shared between the 2. i am looking for a tuning of 31-33 because i love the lows. my max dimensions are 14 high 32 witdth and around 27 depth (with like 4 inches to spare for the sub excursion and port air room) i came up with some numbers in Torres tell me what you guys think. (i was a little lost on the # of common port walls so i just put 1 for that. i want the port to be in the center.) now if everything is good with those numbers how would i go about starting to design this enclosure i want the box to have a center port. so how would i figure out the lengths of each port to make the L's for each side since it is a center port. i figured instead of doing all those fancy 45's i will just sand around the port exit, the port L corner and end. once i get more help i will start to draw it up in sketch up and post it to make sure everything looks good.
Joe X Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 Yes 2 common walls, the port length you see in Torres needs to be equal to L1 + L2: Try not to do subs up in a trunk car.
Nealon14 Posted March 15, 2014 Author Report Posted March 15, 2014 ok thanks for that picture of the box it helped me understand. If i am going to use a 4 inch wide port does that mean i need to make the L2 4 inches from the back of the box wall? or it does not matter because my port length says 18.2 could i just do 9" for L1 and 9" for L2?
FocusOn20s Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 sub up in a trunk car works. Had a 15" DC Level 3 sub up, port driver side and it hammered. Sub up in trunk works completely fine.
Nealon14 Posted March 15, 2014 Author Report Posted March 15, 2014 what would be best for 2 sa 12's in a sedan trunk with seats that cannot be folded down. A center port a left side port or a right side port all subs back port back. right now i have 56.25in^2 of port area and about 13.5in^2 port area per foot for a tuning of 33 with a net volume of 4.16.

When you do the port in the middle you want the port walls to stop at half of the port width from the back wall, since you have a 4.5" wide port it will stop at 2.25" from the back wall and then turn. I would also recommend doing a double baffle,if you can go 26.5" deep, you should be able to keep your net volume and tuning.
Nealon14 Posted March 16, 2014 Author Report Posted March 16, 2014 ok guys i think i got my final box specs tell me if everything looks good. it is 32.98hz tuning with 50 in^2 of port area and12.05 in^2 port area per foot 4.15ft^3 net volume 5.18 gross volume with no port bends. ok i will see if i will have enough wood to do a double baffle for each woofer should i add any bracing or will it be ok without any because i have a bunch of 1.5" hardwood dowel rods.
