Just Another Story # 8 - The Young Genius - Part 12
________________________________________
We need to make some explosives and set up some booby traps, there are only 2 of us and we cannot keep a watch 24/7 she told him. He said the explosives are easy. We do not have a quick way to detonate them. I could probably make some blasting caps, but it would be dangerous and take a long time. She said let’s get started. We want to make it very unhealthy for any gang members to come within 10 miles of this place. We also want to do our damage 10 mile away. There are about 50 different roads leading out here to the 1 road leading to the domes. They will never figure out where we are based if we do our damage 10 or more miles away from here.

She said if these idiots get hold of an airplane or a helicopter and fly over this place we will be so screwed. I know I thought of that but there was no solution except to just stay in the dome house forever. How far away is any military base, preferably an Army Post? Let’s look it up, I downloaded all those locations in case of an atomic attack.

Have you noticed there are no more warnings that looters will be shot. He said yes, I wonder if the military is getting ready to put a clamp on these rogues who are hurting people. She laughed at that and told him we have already killed 13 people. He stammered for a second and said you know what I mean.

The closest Army Post was 337 miles away. There was an AFB 45 miles away. They pulled out the WV map and pored over it and found 4 secondary routes to the place. Well, she asked what that man said on the terrorists controlled airplane that crashed into the ground in PA. He said Let’s Roll. She said, OK tomorrow we roll on those motor bikes you have.

He figured he was strong enough now to shoot the distance shooting gun the M1A. He strapped it on the carrier and slung the M-16 crosswise on his shoulder. She took the 20 guage strapped to the carrier and the M-16 on her shoulder - They set off on some back country roads and blew past some people walking along the road. The air base looked deserted. They drug their bikes under the single iron barred gate and rode around looking for bunkers. He had told her if we can find any type of bomb we will have a nice fuse detonator for any explosive we can come up with. What do you know about taking a detonating fuse out of a bomb – Just what I read? Well let me know when you want to attempt it – I want to be 800 yards or more away.

The airplanes were gone except for a few piper cubs. He asked her if she wanted to go for a flying jig. He laughed before she answered. She said I guess you can fly a jet plane too. She knew they had only completed the ground portion of the flying course and had not had time to get in any flying time before things happened. He laughed some more and said maybe with a half year or so of hands on instructions. They drug an acetylene tank and an oxygen tank to a locked what they thought was an ammunition bunker. He cut the locks off. The place was empty. They did 2 more with no results. The last one they found some useful stuff; 2 boxes of fragmentation grenades and 100 or so 250 pound bombs. She said to him I am taking these 2 crates of grenades out about a half mile from here; let me know when you are done. If there is a large explosion I will take one box of these grenades with me, hide the other one and go home. He played around with the bombs very gently and screwed the end cap off that held the fuse. He grinned and took 50 fuses out. He made 2 trips off the base and hid most of them in a trash bag in the woods. They each bungee corded down and balanced a crate of fragmentation grenades on the back of their bike carrier and headed home – He had 2 fuses with him, one in each breast pocket.

The USA had not totally collapsed they saw people in small towns. It was the gangs in the cities that were moving outwards that were a big problem. They had killed the police everywhere they saw one.

He would think on how to get the extreme high explosives out of the 250 pound bombs later. What the young Clark did not know, he did not have access to the classified EOD (explosive ordinance disposal) manuals on defusing bombs. If they had been 500 pound bombs, he would have blown himself to kingdom come. The 500 pound bombs had a detonator that fired if the nose fuse was not removed in a certain sequence; this was not incorporated into the 250 pound bombs.

They counted the 24 grenades and wondered if they were viable. He decided to test one in a field in a few days.

The supper was cooked, boiled chicken, they were not 5 star chefs yet, but they sure could read a cook book and follow directions.

The grenade went off exactly 5 seconds after he threw it. They were behind a mound of dirt and they heard the shrapnel fly back over their head. He had only thrown it 14 meters. The kill zone for that type of grenade was 15 meters in a circle. They were 2 lucky teen-agers.

They both studied the bomb fuse through a magnifying glass and a small microscope. They saw how it was put together and how it worked. They just did not have the capability to make the materials that were in the fuse. Even though they knew how to make it; the materials and a facility to do so were not readily available.

They needed the high explosive to eliminate the search from the city gangs and that entailed another trip. They would barely be able to pick one of the 250 pound defused bombs up to bring it home, but that’s what they did.

Gosh Clark said after he Dremel tool cut around the installed rear fin riveted crease. The bomb rear fin came off and the explosives were easily accessed. They now had 125 plus pounds of extreme high explosives and 2 fuses. One more trip to pick up another bomb and the extra already removed fuses. They were now what the US Government would call domestic terrorists.

They did nothing for a week but read old chemistry newsletters, advanced mathematics literature and experiment cooking things. There had been no traffic on the road since the snow had started falling. The milk had started flowing and they had no idea what to do with all that milk. They looked on the downloaded survival files and decided to make some butter and freeze it and to freeze the extra milk, they thought about making cheese in the future. If they wanted no milk they let the calf suck it dry.

They needed no extra electricity from the generators except for the washing machine. They had become adept at checking the batteries and topping them off with distilled water. There were many extras to replace any that went bad.

How are your electronics he asked one day – she said excellent and what about yours? He said so, so – Why would you ask, he said I want to remotely detonate some of this high explosive. She said that’s simple – go to that store on the outskirts of the city and pick up a whole bunch of hand carry radios and when you want to blow something up. Push the button for that channel you got the one hooked into the explosives set on. The electric charge across the capacitors or whatever is in those radios will detonate that fuse buried in the explosive we took out of the 250 pound bomb. Let’s check it first to see if it works. They did – it worked.

They ventured out towards the city a little closer each day. They saw about 8 or 900 gang members that had just killed the good people and taken over a section of the city. Other sections of the city were run by other gangs. He told her this is really bad. She said nah – we will eventually blow all the idiots up and force them to leave this section of the state or kill them one at a time. Clark looked at her and wondered if she had become a homicidal killer. She laughed and said I know what you are thinking. You are wrong – these people are killers and if they ever find us they will kill you and rape me to death. He quit thinking bad thoughts about her.

The snow had melted and the roadways were clear enough for them to make a midnight trip to a bridge crossing the bad guys used to forage in one direction. She said do you really want to blow the bridge up; he thought about it for a few seconds and said no, we may need to cross it someday. Let’s make some IED’s, he brightened up real fast when she said those 3 letters. He said I believe 6 five pound charges with some scrap metal will take out those low rider cars they are cruising around in terrorizing the remaining good people. He said I really want to take out the entire 12 to 16 people car convoy – no survivors. If we can bury the bodies and get rid of the cars; it will create a big ball of fear in the remaining bad guys, especially if we can do it twice. After the 2nd time we go hide out in the dome for 34 days. I believe like you said the military trained people they have will set up traps that we have not thought about.

They completely destroyed two 6 car convoys and killed all the passengers. The 2nd convoy they left in the roadway and slinkied their young bodies back home to study and think some more. Clark and Sylvie were right in lying low for 34 days; the military people set traps all along the roadways for 31 days before calling it off. The bad guys thought it was an act of vengeance by some ex military people.

Clark and Sylvie did it again on the 35th day but at a different location exactly 11 miles away from the 1st attack. They decided to do no more harm for 2 and half months. Again their thinking was right. They made another trip to the abandoned AFB and both carried a 250 pound bomb home on their carrier.

So far there had been no flyovers except for an occasional jet several miles up. They planned and studied on what ever their hearts desired. They really did not need a parent to give them guidance - they were more self disciplined then 95% of the population and could get along just as well in a desert environment, jungle or where they were right now.

They were curious about their 3 neighbors and decided to check out the houses. They had seen no smoke and were just curious but a little late in getting around to it. The bodies had their throats cut. All 3 houses the occupants were murdered and the food taken. They also noticed the windows open. A big light bulb went off. That was the signal to the low rider car gangs that this house had been sanitized and was not worth re-entering. They made a mental note of that.

They decided to slip into the lions den and do major damage. They made 3 night time trips close to the gang headquarters and stacked up 60 pounds of high explosive. They would do the deed on a cold windy rainy night when most of the gang was in the headquarters. They had earmarked 2 other apartments that the bad guys were occupying. 40 pounds went off next to the headquarters and two 10 pound explosive charges that set on fire and eliminated the apartment buildings. They got lucky; all the military people were in the headquarters building. Some of them were having sex with the captured and tortured females they kept around. The leadership of this big gang was for all practical purposes dead.

They decided not to do that again because they got shot at several times while running out of town towards their motor bikes. They escaped unscathed.

The winter moved in and the snow covered the roadways to about 14 inches deep and no travel was possible unless one had a snow machine or a tracked vehicle. They had neither but made plans to acquire them during the summer months. Another gang moved in to take over the decimated one Clark and Sylvie had damaged. The new leader was cut from the same mold. The only difference was he had no ex-military advisors.

The summer came and Clark and Sylvie watched the new gang and how they operated. They would destroy this gang too. They studied the other gangs in the city and found out these people were violent and had no mercy. They decided to have one big explosive event and do damage to all 4 corners of the city. They had enough explosives and radios to do it all at once. They were tired of hiding.

They decided on midnight the 4th of July. The idiots would at least shoot guns off to celebrate. They planted some watermelons, cantaloupes and some apple seeds they had taken from a 50 or more year old tree and hoped it was an heirloom. They also tried their hand at an apple limb cutting dipped in some root tone they had picked up. It died.

They had slipped into the city at 3 am when the bad guys were just going to bed or were drunk. The explosives were set for 3 days from now. He was not worried about anyone finding the bombs. They were too lazy to lift up some trash to look under it.

When the bombs went off, Clark had no idea how much damage they would cause. He wiped out 75% of the gangs and their leaders. The rest of the bad guys knew something was bad wrong and this was not a safe place to breathe air. They left.

Clark and Sylvie did not find out the city was abandoned for several weeks. They did what they normally did. Study and read stuff no normal human would think of looking at.

They decided to get on the shortwave and see what was going on in the world. There were millions of people on the airwaves. They made contact with people within 300 miles of their location. Some of the people they talked to were #@$$ holes and they just marked the channel they were talking on to a listen only channel.

Everything was coming back to normal until the Israelis attacked Iran because of some germ warfare things the Iranians had missiled into Israel. Things got hot after that, Russia, China, Pakistan and India got into it. Clark just told Sylvie that he was going to button the place up for however long it took for the bad people to die off.

9 months it took for the radiation to die down to where it was safe to venture out. The chickens and cows were dead and dried up. He did not worry about that, he drug them out of the barn and left them in the middle of a field. They would rot away eventually. He saw no reason for burying them. He thought about the hundred million or so of buffalo that had crossed the plains and died. No one had buried them.

The cities were completely dead, nada, nothing survived. The motorbikes that were in dome 2 ran good. That’s what they used to travel around. They were going on 15 years old now and were physically better equipped to handle things. Sylvie still had not started menstruating and Clark was amazed every time he looked at her. She had that glow that pre – teens always gave off and she smelled like a freshly sprinkled Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder Baby whenever he did get close to her.

He was trying to get to sleep one night and he said several bad mental words. The almost 8 million dollars was gone. The silver and gold he had purchased would probably only be used by his great grand kids if he ever had any. His brilliance would be a fading light in the times to come. He finally drifted off to sleep.

The radio enlightened them – There were lots of people around just not close. Clark was now 16 years old and reaching his full body powers. 2 more years and he would be full grown. The 2 had gotten into biology and if they had some formal training could easily become medical doctors. It was no problem to memorize the nerves, bones and blood vessels in the body – they just needed somebody to show them what to do with that knowledge – The doctor text books were great as far as they went, but someone some when or somewhere had deleted all the neat stuff out and decided that only certified doctors should be allowed to teach that information. He always wondered about that and thought really hard about why this information should not be written down in simple terms for a lay person to study. Not for him decide on all the past stupid decisions.

They had been reading on how to use an MRI machine and how to interpret the results because she had still not started her menstrual cycle. They had already researched chemical imbalances, vitamin deficiencies and used a small blood analyzer taken from a hospital to test her blood. They had talked on the shortwave with an elderly doctor. His advice was to wait, let nature take its course. He told them that it was not uncommon for females to not start their cycle till they were 18 or 19 years old. He did mention this was rare. After the MRI, they found absolutely nothing wrong – her internals were perfect. So they decided to do what the old doctor said, wait.

They got frisky with each other on her 17th birthday and did some heavy petting.

The next day her cycle started.

On her 19th birthday they each strapped a child into a chest baby carrier, got on their motor bikes and headed to the large peopled community where the old doctor lived.

Clark Story #9 - The Spy

________________________________________
The active duty military Special Forces Captain had been working for the Central Intelligence Agency in Covert Operations for 7 years and was really very good at what he did. He had caught the eye of a CIA COS (Chief of Station) in Japan and was recruited. This was a simple thing to do. The COS went to the Chief of Staff of the numbered Air Force in Japan and simply told the Colonel he wanted this Captain. The Chief of Staff of the numbered Air Force that controlled entry to the 4 star General that commanded all military Far East Operations told him of the request. Paper work was completed assigning the Captain to the CIA. It was that simple. The Army would be reimbursed through inter-agency funds for the use of one military pay grade (O-3) Captain. He was flown back to the US where he attended several classified schools on some neat things they did not teach in Special Forces. Day/night City Surveillance, surreptitious entry, some cool lock picking, enhanced nuclear weapons identification/disarmament, and some gadgets he had heard about but was not available to Army members. He kind of thought the Seals may have them, but he never found out at that time. Some of the people in the classes he attended had that look that only extremely well trained military members had. But everyone was told to not ask any personal or probing questions of their classmates or they would find themselves out of the system and looking for another job.

Captain Clark, now newly promoted to major. His next assignment he was in charge of a small contingent of agents who had been keeping track of 1 Chinese spy and 2 Russian spies. They had tracked them all through Japan back to the Philippines’ and were now in Viet Nam. Clark was in Viet Nam and did the normal appearance change procedure. He took the pills to turn his skin yellow. He had black hair, dark eyes and could pass for a half breed Vietnamese. His language skills were superb. He spoke half a dozen oriental languages and Vietnamese was one of them. He was dressed in a local native garb and the coolie straw hat.

The Chinese agent he was shadowing was about 200 meters ahead of him and had on a khaki uniform with a short sleeve shirt. 2 men on Clark’s team were several hundred yards behind Clark and one was 100 meters in front of the Chinese agent. The furthest trailing agent had a nice digital camera with an exceptional telephoto lens. He had taken hundreds of pictures of everyone the Chinaman spoke to or waved at. This cat and mouse game had been going on for 3 months straight. The CIA team had identified several new spies over the long following and action was being taken to put a close watch and electronic surveillance of those newly identified agents.

The Chinaman rented a motor bike and headed due north. Clark made a quick decision to follow him for just a little longer. If he crossed the border into China, they would have no other choice but to break off the surveillance. The Chinese spy crossed the border. The surveillance was broken off and Clark returned to Japan for what he hoped would be a few weeks off. He had never been told because of operational security, but he just made an assumption there were operatives that belonged to the US in China and they would naintain surveillance.

________________________________________
Big surprise when he got back from Viet Nam, the new CIA Chief of Station told Major Clark that he was being reassigned to the continental United States. Clark had 2 residences in Japan, one was on a military base and the other was a rented expensive safe house near downtown Tokyo. He really had what one would call a plum assignment and took full advantage of the Tokyo nightlife. He frequented the Army Officers Club to keep his military contacts. He had frequent briefings at his former Army assignment to keep his military knowledge current. He knew this was coming, he just wasn’t sure of the when. His new assignment was to an Intelligence Unit at an Army Post in Alexandria Virginia. The Pentagon had long ago set out rules on how long the CIA could keep an active duty military member without said member being returned to his former military duties. The pencil pushers also knew that once the CIA got their sticky hands on a military member they would eventually get him back several more times during his military career, if the military person was a good one. Major Clark was one of the good ones.

Clark did not yet know it but wheels within wheels had been set in motion on how his future military career would be played out. His new duty assignment kept him in the loop on intelligence events world wide. He was also scheduled to attend night school to learn Farsi amongst other Middle Eastern languages. The hint was given to him by a one star general in a classified meeting to learn how to fly single engine aircraft. After that meeting Clark spewed out a bunch of expletives and told himself, he was getting to old to be a college boy. But he kept his mouth which always stayed in the shut position more tightly shut. 18 months later he was reassigned to the Middle East after he had some more training. He really thought he should resign his commission right this day. He had to learn to ride a camel; he already could ride a horse fairly well.

Just another story #9 - Part 3
________________________________________
He grabbed his duffle bag off the plane at the big Baghdad Airport and walked down the ramp into that 120 degree heat. A small grin quirked up the corners of his mouth; The first CIA Chief of Station he had met in Japan was leaning against a Hummer about 40 yards away. He had on a neat set of desert camouflage fatigues and sweat was soaking his chest and underarms. Clark threw his duffle bag in the back of the hummer and said, nice meeting you here. The Hummer stopped in front of a large building that had a large sign saying all new arriving military members check in here. The COS handed him a set of orders and said give those to that Orderly Room Sgt in there and come on back. The paperwork is to insure you are accounted for and no one will be searching the country for a missing Army Special Forces Major.

When Clark got back in the Hummer he asked why is the chief driving around as a chauffer? The chief told him right now I am it; all the other agents are out on missions.
They stopped about 200 yards from a barracks like structure. The chief pulled up to a small garage or storage building and got out. He told Clark to see if the building was empty. Clark did, it was. The chief said there are not many places I can give Top Secret briefings, but this is one of them. He gave Clark a 10 minute overview of his coming mission and then dumped him off at his sleep area. He said food is served in that large tent about 75 yards away, 24 hours a day. See you at 0900 tomorrow at this place. The chief had given him a small local map and he looked at where the chief had put his finger.

Clark took a shower and turned the window AC off. His thinking was; may as well get a head start on getting used to this heat. 2 weeks later after many, many briefings, he was acclimatized to the heat and ready for the coming intelligence gathering combat mission. Before he went on the CIA mission, he was assigned to a Ranger unit for some night time operations. The CIA Station Chief wanted to make sure Clark was back in military mind set and was used to using military weapons in a combat zone. The ranger Unit made contact several times with insurgents and short violent firefights ensued. One week later Clark was sent back to the CIA Operations center for a last briefing. He said to himself, finally I get to play army instead of spy. How wrong that thinking was.

The original plan was for the 3 agents to ride camels 400 plus miles into Iranian territory to the Mansweg nuclear weapons/missile research area and study the place from the ground. Satellite pictures could only show so much. Someone way high up in the Intelligence chain of command had made a decision to send a team into this hostile territory. The camel ride in had been scrapped for a HALO (high altitude low opening) parachute drop 35 miles from their intended target. The exit trip would be the camel/horse ride out.

Just another story #9 - Part 4
________________________________________
Clark had not met his 2 team mates and would not until they boarded the military stealth bomber. The pilot and the co-pilot went over the exit procedure 4 more times in 30 minutes to make absolutely sure the people being ejected from the plane had the sequence down perfectly. There was no room for any error. The plane would take them 75 miles from their intended target and do a reverse roll. The 3 would be ejected almost at the top of the turn. This was to insure ground radar did not pick up the open bay door of the bomber. Clark asked the pilot if he had done this before. The pilot looked at him and said yes and that was all the information Clark would get from this close mouthed stealth bomber pilot. Some more technical data was given the 3 like the speed of the plane 300 knots and yes the exact release had been calculated to give the 3 exiting people the proper speed and direction to let them free fall to their ground location. Clark had been ejected from planes before but nowhere near the speed of this exit. The pilot looked at Clark when he gave the plane speed and told the 3 of them – It will be a rough exit but you will not get injured. Make absolutely sure you bury deep the helmet, oxygen tank, parachute and high altitude suit as soon as you are on the ground. That was the extent of the briefing the co-pilot gave. There will be people in the area that will have all the equipment you need to continue your journey and they will give you the coordinates where the food and water stashes are to enable you to make the 400 mile trip back to the Iraq border.

The best analogy Clark could come up with on what he thought a most stupid and dangerous mission this was – Drop a naked white man into a secure Chinese nuclear storage area about 1500 miles from the border in main land China.

Just another story #9 - Part 5
________________________________________
Clark thought what a rush as he ejected from the plane heading upwards and outwards at 300 plus miles an hour. He knew one thing if he didn’t have the helmet, oxugen mask and high pressure altitude suit on the oxygen would have boiled out of his blood. He finally got lined out and waited till he hit air thick enough to fall/glide in the direction the GPS arrow markers showed him to go. At 900 feet the chute automatically opened. A quick check of the GPS showed they were 300 yards from their designated touchdown. 3 men and 2 women came out of the darkness and helped them dig a pit deep enough to bury their equipment.

On the plane Clark chatted with the 2 other agents, one was an attractive female with a smooth skinned olive complexion and dark sparkling eyes, her name was Aleana and his name was Benimi and he also had a dark olive complexion. Clark reached into his memory banks and thought those names were Israeli. They were. Clark was told to call her Anna and to call the man Benee.

The nomads that were there had been paid to bring the camels, horses and tribal travel clothing. The 3 camped where the animals were because there was a small water seep. They stayed there 5 days to go over their equipment and talk over their approach to the nuclear weapons facility they were going to look at. The secret gadgets were tested out and weapons checked. Clark studied each of the 6 small functional baskets that were woven of 15 pounds of Russian equivalent C4. The battery and timer were neatly concealed in the bottom and could be time or remotely set to detonate anytime from 0 minutes to 21 days. Clark thought to himself, I sure hope they plan on remotely detonating those baskets or setting the timers to explode 21 days after they had left the area. They took the small caravan within 1 hundred yards of the front of the fence the entry gate was and a small conversation was conducted by the woman asking if anyone had anything to trade for some knives or trinkets that were made by, she called the maker one of the finest knife makers in the world.

Clark did not think it was going to be this easy. The gate guard told them to set their camp up at the end of the fence and the off duty soldiers would stop by and check the merchandise out. Clark knew the wood handled knives were made in a knife factory in Israel and were not stamped by the company. They were first rate knives and any collector would love to have one. They traded 2 knives and sold one for many Rials (Iranian money) that 1st evening. The Commander of the guard detail told them to move 500 meters from the fence if they were going to stay another night.

________________________________________
One of the secret gadgets they had, sensed any electrical current or buried passive devices. They could see the buildings and the covered areas that contained missiles. Clark had noticed Benee had used the detector when they went past the fence. Benee told them about 1030 pm there were no high tech alarm systems on or under the fence line. They watched how people walked around the area and saw they did not follow any path that would take them away from a mined area, so the area was not mined. The lights on the fence line came on at dark and all of them saw there were dark areas on the fence line. They watched the empty guard tower and the gate guard for an hour. Anna checked for night vision emissions and saw none. They all assumed correctly that the guards had become lax because the guards knew only an insane person would try to get into a nuclear storage/missile area in the middle of Iran.

Clark and Benee dug under the fence in a dark area and drug the six 15 pound explosives next to the large building where they buried 4 of them and buried the other 2 right beside the sealed up missile launch pad. They set the charges for 21 days from now and departed the compound. The big building had an alarm key pad on the side of the entry door so they did not take the chance of setting an alarm off and did not enter.

They stayed till dark and rode out in a northerly direction. As soon as they were a mile or so away from the compound they headed back towards Iraq. 200 more miles to go Clark thought on the 10th or was it the 11th day of riding this stinking camel. Benee’s camel shied at something and he fell off his camel and broke his neck. This is beyond a mess he thought. Anna told Clark we have some nasty work to do. He asked her what? She said we have to knock all his teeth out and cut his private parts off. His mouth was so wide open a horse could have ridden into it. She said he has some things in 2 of his teeth we do not want anyone to ever find. Why cut his private parts off? She said that’s not the worst of it. After we do the teeth and the private parts we have to stake him out on the earth face down. She just said that is the way some nomads do their victims. She looked at him and said I’ll do it. He did help her pound some stakes in the ground to stake him to the ground. She crushed all his teeth on a flat rock and put the pieces with his private parts in a small cloth bag. The bag was buried about 10 miles from where the body was left. Clark was thinking this is one hard core woman. After he thought about it when she gave him a few more details; he agreed with her. But it sure was something a normal person would have trouble doing.

Day 16 the satellite communications informed them to take shelter; a sandstorm would be on them in 6 hours. They found a rocky outcropping and staked the animals down. The animals knew there was a bad storm coming and huddled down next the rocky ledge. She took the extremely small nail driver that used 22 blanks and drove the nail tie downs into the rock. This secured the small 3 man tent at 8 points. She said I wish I had more tie down nails. You better hope and pray this tent is in one piece after the storm or else we will lose some skin from the sand blasting. She handed him a mask that was similar to an N-95, a set of cotton ear plugs and a pair of safety glasses and told him to put them on when the wind picks up. Now we wait she said. All Clark thought about was how hot it was in the tent. They had had no extra water to take a sponge bath. The 4 caches they dug up had just enough drinking water for 2 people instead of 3 and cleanliness had went by the wayside, the way Clark put it was he sure did not like to smell himself much less her. The tent held up during the tremendous sandstorm and daylight visibility fell to a deep darkness. He wanted to take the face mask off but just looked at the fine particles floating in the air in the tent and thought that would not be a good idea. They just fell into their own thoughts for the next 14 hours as the storm raged around them and it finally blew out or past them.

Day 20 they reached the Iraqi border. There were 3 nomads waiting for them. They showed Clark and the woman where 3 four wheeler Honda bikes were parked. They took the animals, extra clothing and what Clark and Aleana did not remove. She looked at her GPS and told him we drive 38.7 miles in a southwesterly direction. An hour later they drove down into a small hangar like dug out covered over section of the desert. Dang Clark said, there was a single engine plane parked in this dug out covered over section. She said there are many places like this the US Army has built for covert operations. There was a 1000 gallon water tank, a real toilet, bunk beds, a place to take a lukewarm shower, 2 deeper dug out 24 X 24 rooms, one with the already mentioned beds and the other was full of MRE’s and military clothing. She said we are to wait here for 2 days and then you can fly me back to Baghdad where we will part company.

That never happened, the SHTF at 0100 hours 27 July the 21st day after they had left the Iranian nuclear weapons compound.

What Clark did not know was he and Benee had started World War 111. The fault was caused by an Iranian nuclear technician. He had set 14 of Iran’s 1 megaton nuclear missiles to impact detonation. The Russian instructions were not clear plus his reading of the Russian language was not of the 1st order. When the two 15 pound C4 type explosive detonated beside the underground missile the top small concrete covering fell onto the really simple plunger detonator and the deadly sequence of things to come was instantaneous after that. There were 14 one megaton explosions 100 miles south of Teheran.

It was almost at the same second that the 2 people watching the images from the satellite overflying Iran pushed the panic button. The Israeli Self Defense Force went to their highest level of alert. The US went to the #2 position on their threat condition. Teheran launched 3 nuclear tipped missiles at Israel, 5 at the fleet in the Gulf, and 4 at the largest known concentration of US troops in the Middle East. 4 more were fired at Pakistan and 2 at the US military bases in Turkey. Teheran was not quite through; although they would soon be destroyed on a country wide scale. Saudi Arabia was on their target list and the last 2 missiles were launched. This caused a cascade effect of Middle Eastern nuclear powered countries launching. The super powers squared off next. Russia launched a 1st strike at the US because they knew they would get the blame for supplying nuclear material and weapons components to Iran. China also launched because they were guilty of supplying missiles to Iran. The almost total destruction of the world was in progress.

Clark was asleep in a bunk bed on one side of the room across from Aleana. The shockwave from the blast that destroyed Baghdad caused a lot of sand to fall through the 2 X 6 galvanized roof covered ceiling. If the Army had not installed the 6 X 6’s to hold the weight of the 5 feet of sand up the entire sand covered ceiling would have fallen onto them; as it was the outer edge of the overhang hangar did collapse just missing the tail of the aircraft. The camouflage netting and canvas kept the sand from whooshing in on the 2 sleepers who had left the entry door to the bunk room open.

Clark and Aleana’s feet hit the floor at the same time. He hollered out to her, earthquake? She said no this is an extremely stable area and there have been no earthquakes reported in this region as far back as recorded history. They both had the same thought, nuclear detonation. They dressed, ran to where they could look out of the overhang. The mushroom cloud was there in the distance with the 4 or 5 lightning streaks off to the side, just like in the pictures. Uh Oh, she said. They pulled the canvas back against the wall covering over the hole they had made to look out. He said we don’t have much time. They ran and each drug a bunk into the MRE storage room. He unrolled the hose from the 1000 gallon water tank and pulled it into the room. He asked her to get all the trash bags; she didn’t ask why she brought in 16 or so 100 count packages of 30 gallon bags. He unscrewed the toilet lid off the toilet and grabbed 4 military OD green 6 or 8 gallon size metal trash cans. They looked at the door and saw they would have to dig a hole down 3 or 4 inches to let the hose go under it.. That was quickly done and the extra dirt and sand was piled back over it. The door was one of those hollow metal ones and he asked her if she thought they had time to get the other door. She said we’re probably going to need more than another door. He said maybe not. After they had the other door duct taped onto the hanging one. He told her I am more worried about running out of air. We cannot duct tape the seams around the door or we will suffocate. We need to hang the canvas over the seams and let the air percolate through it. We are 130 or so feet from the outer hanging canvas and that will not stop the radiation but distance will. They hung the canvas over the door and stacked 40 some cases of MRE’s in front of the double hollow metal doors.

She said that nuclear weapon detonation was less then 40 miles away. Yes I know, but we were in that room with 23 or more feet of dirt and sand between us and the Gamma ray burst, so we should be OK. It is not having a radiation detector that I am worried about. Those black sparkling eyes sparkled some more in the dim battery powered LED lights and she said yes we do. We have 2. That makes a lot of sense he was thinking. We were going to a nuclear weapons site, so why didn’t my planners give me one. They made him leave his keychain Nuke Alert in the office safe because it made an audible noise. This would not be good for a covert operative to have on his possession and it started to ticking. He just said to the air, the Israelis had better operative and planning handlers then me.

Well Ms Anna, turn one of them on by the canvas covering the door. She checked and said nothing yet. He told her, since I was so rudely interrupted during my sleep cycle; I am going back to bed. All that can happen is I get radioactive and start glowing in the dark and then die. She said well at least your sense of humor hasn’t failed you. She had no idea how scared he was.

Noon the next day she checked again and it was 9R but she had to put the probe right on the canvas to get any reading. He was thinking I may yet get to see the good ole USA again.

They talked for hours each day and he learned about her family, all about Benee and his wife and 5 children. She never married, but almost had once. As time went by they became close and shared a lot of secret things. The little Cupid Boy with the arrows was around doing strange things to their feelings. The 4th week they moved their cots to a side by side position. They must have held hands for what seemed to him a year before things heated up. The 15th week there was no detectable radiation. He told her I bet we are almost out of water. They thumped the 1000 gallon tow along tank as they walked by it on their way out and it sounded like a big empty drum one would hit.

They had already made several sets of plans on what to do when they left. The 1st thing was to see how much damage Baghdad had sustained if they could get close enough to look around. They got to within 15 miles before the radiation started rising. They turned the two 4 wheelers back and started digging a path back upwards to get the plane out. There were no satellite communications. They knew this was a really bad sign. Every building they had looked in on the way to Baghdad was full of desiccated bodies. The faint smell of death hung in each building and the surrounding countryside air.

They flew a 70 mile circle of Baghdad and saw nothing alive. She said we need some worldwide communication capability. They landed near one of the 14 caches that were programmed into her GPS, to refuel and think about the problem. She told him that so far the GPS was working, but she wondered for how much longer. They talked about using the communication satellite without turning on the encryption gear on their portable transceivers. She just said there is no way to turn the encryption off on these units. He said well that just means we will have to find a military unit that was not in a radioactive zone. They have radios that can reach out and touch some people. She said toss a coin, he said why. We either go north or south. Kirkuk had a big military operation going on up north about a 120 miles or Al Basrah 180 miles south down on the Kuwait border. OK, simple decision, he said we go south. It is close to the ocean and the military has a large presence in Kuwait. We need to fill the plane tank with I hope Hi Test gasoline that I hope is still good from any of these local gas stations. I need 3 weapons. I want a 50 caliber sniper rifle, and 150 rounds, an M1A with 500 rounds and a 1911 45 pistol and 8 magazines. She said not planning on using the pistol much are you. He said no, I just like to feel the 3 pounds of weight hanging on my hip. She said well double up on the weapons. I can shoot the 50 caliber rifle also and the M1A is a good long range rifle. I really like the Desert Eagle, but the 45 pistol will do for now.

They found a small military convoy just at the outer edge of Baghdad’s hot zone and gathered up the weapons and ammunition they wanted. The next morning the trip south began. About 20 miles south from Baghdad the radiation detector started to creep up. She said we either change course or go up a mile or so to get us out of the dangerous radiation. At 7500 feet the detector settled down to its stop peg. They landed on a straight clear stretch of radioactive free highway to refuel and look the small town over, everyone there was dead.

They could not land at Al Basrah so they continued on into Kuwait. They saw the wreckage of the military carriers in the Gulf and a sad feeling came over him. They turned around and landed at the small town they had stopped at earlier to refuel and spend the night. She told him we are in serious trouble if we cannot get to a radiation free zone. Sooner or later a sandstorm will happen and it just may bring all that radiation into our area. They talked about the 2 options they had. #1, Get a bigger airplane with more range. #2. Go to the coast and get a boat to take them out into the Gulf. He said we don’t have too many options. He liked her deduction. There had to of been global thermal nuclear war. Do you want to try to get to Israel? She looked at him as if he had totally gone bonkers. She said Israel has been sunk into the ocean, if we can come back and look 10 or more years from now. There will not even be a hint of where the coastline used to be. She was right.

They talked all night about the boat and bigger plane. They finally decided to stay where they were if they could find a concrete building with a basement. They found one that satisfied her and he repaired the windows. Supplies and water were stockpiled, even though the place had a well 5 feet from the back door. They filtered all their drinking water, not from radiation, they knew water did not become radioactive, but because they had no way to tell if the water was germ free and safe to drink. She had also told him that her implant to stop pregnancy would no longer work in about 6 months. The next decision was to keep the rechargeable batteries for the radiation detectors and their satellite radios charged and stored away. They were going to wait one year and hope the radiation died down enough for them to escape the country. The gasoline they would get from military locations would be safe to use because all military aviation petrol was stabilized.

The keys to a diesel garbage pickup truck were found and after pulling batteries from 3 different automobiles it started and ran roughly for 2 days before the engine smoothed out. They drove to the 5 towns in both directions from where they were staying and raided the local stores. She had him wait while she checked out a pharmacy beside an office that had housed 2 Medical Doctors. The birth control pills were found and she told him she did not want to bring a child into this world where they were now staying. He agreed with her 100%. It would be to dangerous trying to raise a baby here with the drifting radiation, small amount of baby supplies and medicine they found.

5 monstrous sandstorms and 1 year had passed before they pulled the plane out of the large grocery store warehouse the plane had been stored in. They got it running again and took off. The 1st stop was Baghdad and the radiation was just about negligible. The circle they made on the still running 4 wheelers netted them the communications gear they had been desperately seeking. A diesel generator being towed by a hummer in a long convoy was coerced into running and the batteries for all the required equipment were charged.

Now Clark said if the military communications satellites are still working we can talk with anywhere USA. Clark had to stay current with communication technology as a Special Forces person. He never knew where he may be deployed to and communications were essential to running a military operation. He never set out to memorize all those military monikers like AN 850 PNC or whatever. He could look at a radio and check the frequencies it broadcast on. This was a satellite communications transmitter receiver. He told her to not get her hopes up and they would start transmitting as soon as they set up a place where they could bivouac for a few days.

3 days later a voice came out of the speakers. It said, hey soldier boy. That made sense since he was using Major Clark in Iraq calling anyone in the US. A conversation went off and on for 2 or 3 hours each day until Clark and Anna (he just started calling her Anna) pieced together what had happened. She laughed a good one and finally said I have a name for you – He looked at her – She said World Destroyer. He grinned and said well someone had to start it.

Just another story #9 - Part 16

Ms Anna, where would you like to live? He gave her several options, since they had found out the USA was just about uninhabitable. One place is a few hundred miles north of the equator, somewhere on the African coast. Another place I have a hankering to see is Rangoon, that’s just about far enough above the equator where the humidity on the coast won’t smother or drown us. Just make sure it is someplace warm and not to humid. It will take us a long time to learn how to fly one of the undamaged C-130’s. That plane will give us the range to travel a great distance. It will also insure we can fly over land and not the ocean, and if we are lucky, not crash. She cocked both eyebrows at him. He laughed.

The 2 boys Clark and Anna sired had plenty of playmates off the eastern coast of Rangoon where they lived in a grass hut 50 yards from the Bay of Bengal.

Clark Story #10 - The Wind

The Chinese had been experimenting with methods to control the weather for many years. Xing Phu, Chief Meteorological Scientist, theorized that three 25 megaton nuclear detonations set off in a triangle formation; 3.4 miles distance between each in an east, west and south series of explosions 45 seconds apart should start some type of cyclonic vortex. Of course he knew the Chinese High Command would never allow such a thing. So he sent his theory in for study by other interested parties and went on with his work.

2 weeks had gone by when the Chief Scientist was summoned to appear before a small group of the High Command. When he entered he saw the General that was in charge of all nuclear weapons in China. The questioning began. The only feasible or logical conclusion Xing Phu had thought of when he theorized the triple nuclear detonation was; the short lived vortex would pull the colder air from the upper atmosphere and send it in a 3.4 mile wide westerly direction for what he thought would be no more then 24 hours. This would cool down a section of the vast desert area and hopefully the cooling effect would last long enough for the rains to start some re growth of the desert area. There were no more questions and Xing Phu was sent back to his work area.

The 6 other General Officers with the General that was in charge of nuclear weapons talked about what they had heard from the Scientist. A consensus was formed and they would try this experiment on the northwestern outer edge of the Gobi desert and the Northwestern edge of the Ordos desert. They were ecstatic in their planning and hoped to green up those 2 bad sections of China.

Clark riveted the last bolt of this job into the girder on the 35th floor of this steel framed skyscraper. He had graduated from college 3 years ago with an architectural degree and had been learning the trade from the ground up. This was his 14th different job from building underground storage vaults, stick homes, bridges and skyscrapers. He was now ready to put the learned hands on practical building knowledge with the school knowledge to professional use. The wages he had made on those high paying construction jobs never hurt his feelings either.

He drove his new diesel pick up to his property 672 miles from the skyscraper job he had just finished. He had bought the property from a retiring farmer. The small mostly leveled off 3 acre lot was located at the 1400 foot level on the eastern side of an 1850 foot high mountain in the middle of West Virginia. Clark gave the farmer 75000 cash and signed an interest free promissory note for 48 months at 500 dollars a month. The farmer readily agreed to this since he could report the farm sold at 40000 dollars and not have to pay the enormous amount of taxes to the state. Clark readily agreed to this to because he now had his property now appraised at a purchase price of 40000 dollars and his property taxes would be in the reasonable zone.

The small farm had a 2800 square foot cinder block single story home covered over with red brick that the farmer, who by the way was an ex-coal miner, had built with the help of his 4 sons. There were 2 rather large concrete storage buildings, one cinder block barn and a 4 car cinder block drive in garage. He found out why every thing was concrete, brick and cinderblock. One of his sons worked at the concrete mixing plant and one customer filed bankruptcy before taking possession of the large load of cinder block and brick for a new business warehouse he was going to build. The farmer bid on the block when the concrete business let it be known they were up for a quick sale. He bid 7 cents each for the brick and cinder blocks, which were all an off color red and no one would ever buy them. His son used the concrete business flat bed delivery truck and after many trips all the building materials were dropped off at the farm. The concrete business owner was happy because the removal of that many bricks and blocks freed up a significant portion of his storage area. The farmer was happy because the materials were really dirt cheap. The roofing material which was also included in the purchase price was the same red colored 8 foot by 4 foot wide ½ inch thick concrete waterproof roofing sheets.

Just another story #10 - Part 2
________________________________________
When the farmer started gathering materials to build this house he was still working in the coal mines and had access to several pieces of machinery most people did not. The mine he was at was changing out the tunneling miner which would be idle for 2 weeks before it was sold to another mining operation. He borrowed the miner and drilled two 8 foot wide and tall side by side holes 60 feet into the mountain for a root cellar and storage area. Next he borrowed the roof bolter and several hundred 36 and 48 inch roof bolts and drove them into the roof to stop the roof from flaking or small pieces falling down – on the end of the bolt that was driven up into the roof of the mines was either a 6 inch by 6 inch ½ inch thick or 8 inch by 8 inch steel plate to maximize the roof coverage of the bolt. At the very end of the tunnel his boys made him a double thick cinder block 16 by 16 foot root cellar with shelves and even ran electric wire for lights, copper wire at that time was about 6 or so
cents a foot so it was cheap. He told Clark that what he thought was the most expensive things to build all his buildings were the steel beams and the poured concrete for the flooring. He had a small grin on his face when he told Clark the labor was free. Clark just could not resist asking him how much the whole place cost - The farmer leaned back against the concrete garage and figured mentally for a few minutes. He said 17000 dollars. Before the farmer handed him the completed paperwork on the almost finished transaction he made a strange request. He told Clark there is just me and my wife left now, we outlived our 4 boys. We have some grandchildren we see every now and then but they have moved to a long distance away from our apartment in town. We want to come here and stay in the cave with you in case of really and I mean really bad times. We have our own supplies and cots to sleep on so all we would need from you is use of the toilet facilities and some water. Clark didn’t even think about it, he just said yes and put it on one of his back burner mental thought pages to think about.

Clark was happy as could be, he had his dream location and almost dream house. Now he needed to get that job that was promised him by that big firm in the Capitol of the state. He started to work the next week and for several months worked and designed a bunch of high dollar buildings. Since he had hands on knowledge of what could and could not be done when designing million dollar projects. His bosses took immediate note of the high quality work coming from one small drafting desk. Seven months after starting work he was making more money then he ever thought possible. It was in between jobs and a holiday the thoughts of what the farmer said came bubbling to the forefront of his mind. The words played out - and I mean really bad times. He became a prepper that day, he had enough money to buy a slew of things and he did. The internet was his go to place for long term supplies and he spent money like it was water, but he had plenty and more coming in.

Just another story #10 - Part 3
________________________________________
On a free weekend he was going over his property and he saw a bunch of expensive things he was going to need, alternate power source, a vault type door on the cave, and breathable air after he sealed himself in the cave. He had noticed the cave sloped upwards as it went in maybe 4 or 5 degrees and he had to think hard on why that was. It finally dawned on him, to let water drain out in case it seeped through the sandstone from the top of the mountain. He had to factor that in when he designed the vault door, and a way to get any excess water if any out; that was an easy solution. He remembered back to the bomb shelters he had helped build and used some of those design techniques into the door way he was going to install. The solar panels were just a tad too expensive for him to go all out and install, but he did get a 10000 dollar array and batteries. On the very end of his property there was a creek that dropped off the top ledge about 14 feet, he had never been involved with water power, but he was surely going to learn about it in the coming weeks. There was a shallow well close to the main house and it had fairly good drinking water. He thought since I am doing all this survival preparation stuff, I may as well insure I have a 2nd source of water. He pulled out his transit and found out the upper beginnings of the creek were 91 feet higher then the entry way to the cave. That went on his list of simple and probably one of the cheaper things for him to do. Install a 2 inch plastic pipe from the creek to the cave entryway. Uh oh he thought – going to have to bury the pipe to keep it from freezing in the winter. So that is not going to be as cheap as I thought.

Several more months have gone by and Clark was pricing out HF radios and antennas. He was extremely happy with his small electric generating paddle wheel system he had surreptitiously installed at the lower end of the falling water from the creek. The installer had asked him if he had applied for a permit to put a device in a stream or river in WV. Of course Clark told him, you know how the bureaucratic Buttheads are on taking action to help a citizen. The Power specialist said yep I know. Just make sure they come and put their stamp of approval on it. Clark said I will. Clark had no intention of ever notifying any state agency. He had talked with the farmer about people checking around and Clark was told not in the past 45 years I was there. When he had the water pipe trench dug he laid another 2 inch pipe beside the water and ran some 10 guage wire he had picked up cheaply through it to the water paddle. Everything had been covered over many months ago and grass had already grown over the dug up area. It was just a matter of minutes till Clark had hooked up the wiring to the water wheel outlet. He went back to the cave and was pleasantly surprised the installer was just about right on about how much power would be generated. The water wheel generator was producing a constant 4100 watts. Adding in the output from the solar panels, he had about 6500 watts. That would be sufficient to power lots of things.

He had been quadrupling the payments on his promissory note to the farmer and only had 2 more payments left.

The start of the SHTF began 1 month later.

The Chinese high Command had finalized the plans for the (Code Name) Greenup to go into effect in a week. They had partially cleaned up the amount of dirty radiation that their nuclear bombs would emit. They also were not worried about airburst nuclear weapons and did not care what the rest of the world thought. This was their country and they could do within it what they pleased; so what if a little radiation leaked into the atmosphere and circled the globe. The world could do with a lot less people, just as long as they were not Chinese. The detonations were timed to the split second. They were thinking a little bit about what the world thought. Their thinking was it would show up on the satellites as one massive explosion. If the event to take place was not so serious, it would be compared to a Keystone Cop Funny show or a Chinese fire drill with firecrackers hooked up into each Chinaman’s butt. The Gobi Desert nuclear explosions went off perfectly. The small problem that happened in the Ordos desert was the sequence of explosions was backwards and the triangle was angled just a few degrees southwest instead of due east.
Of course the Chinese High Command was in a concrete bunker 18 miles southwest of the Ordos desert detonations.

The blasts were picked up by every countries satellite monitoring China and alerts were triggered worldwide.

Xing Phu the Meteorological Scientist that had dreamed up this hare brained scheme was right on just a teeny, teeny bit of his hypothesis. A cyclonic vortex was actually created, but it was on an order of magnitude not dreamed of by any scientist on earth. One scientist just a short while after the event happened compared it to two black holes being opened on the Chinese Mainland. Another miniscule part of Xing Phu’s hypothesis was also correct, but again on a small scale of what actually happened. The vortex did pull the cold air down from the upper atmosphere. But it did not stop and his theory the wind would cover an area 3.4 miles wide was so far off it would be mind boggling and earth shattering.

Just another story #10 - Part 5
________________________________________
Clark was on his way home when a gust of wind blew his truck 5 feet sideways and caused him to slam on his brakes, his truck ended up facing due west which was the way the super strong wind was coming from. The aerodynamics of the truck kept him from being overturned. He just said Wow what a scary event. He had no idea what was to come, or for that matter no one on earth did either. That was the precursor of what was in store for the world.

He stopped 3 more times to help people, but no one was seriously injured and he made the turn off the interstate to go home. He arrived there about 45 minutes later amidst strong gusts of wind. He pulled into his driveway and there was a van that had a tow along trailer attached parked in front of his house. It was the farmer with a few more people in the van.

The farmer whose name was Armando, told Clark, I think really, really bad times are coming. Clark asked him about what he thought were bad times. The farmer just said I wish we could go to the cave and set up and I will tell you what I think. Clark just said of course. The farmer did not know about all the preparations Clark had made in the past years and he said I am so glad you picked up the message I wanted to get across to you when I said really, really bad times.

Clark opened the steel door and turned the lights and electric heaters on to the chilly cave, the electric grid was still operational. Armando started unloading his supplies and Clark saw he was carrying the cots he had into the cave. He told Armando that the cots would not be necessary; there were 8 single bunks with a 6 inch thick mattress and box springs already in the cave. Armando nodded his head and left the cots on the tow-along; he did unload the rest of the boxes and stacked them just inside the door.

After everything got straightened out, Armando told him what he had read and seen on the internet before the far eastern internet system quit. Clark waited for more information. It came. Hawaii was getting hit with 60 foot surge tidal like waves and the Chinese had set off multiple in country air burst nuclear detonations. I brought my family here for a few days to see if anything develops from this situation. Clark agreed with him, but did not think staying in a bomb shelter was required of him this night; Almost a Big Error.

Clark did not think too much about what Armando had told him but he did secure the outer steel shutters on the windows and then went straight to bed. He had an early meeting tomorrow morning to plan out a large new shopping mall that was larger then the Mall of America. Those plans were never going to be completed.
