cleaning off surface rust on a motor

Recommended Posts

whats the best way to clean off surface rust on a motor that is still assembled.

I picked up an MTX Sw1212 powered subwoofer today. This thing sounds amazing. 130 watts, 12" woofer with a passive 12" woofer tuned to 27 hz. Moving the pictures on the walls and my girl got wet from the bass when i showed her haha. Tonight should be good haha.

Scotch brite pad should work. Be cautions of going through the coating though. Wipe them down with wd-40 when you are done

wd40 is a solvenet simililar to wiping down with alchol before painting correct?

I wouldn't use it before painting. It's a penetrating oil, so yes it has a solvent in it, but it also has oil in it. The whole idea in this case being that since it's an oil it will provide a layer of corrosion protection.

If you have any household oil it should do the job.

ahh. wouldnt i be better off to just clean with alchol then clear coat to prevent future rust?

pretty much im just trying to go threw the whole sub and make it look nice and pretty for re sale or trade got a buddy that does tattoos and may be trading this for my sleeve
