divebombvt Posted March 22, 2014 Report Posted March 22, 2014 Got a 350 amp singer alt 4 pin... Trying to hook it up in an 07 silverado 5.3l that originally had a dr44g 2 pin alt( L and F pins) Having some trouble getting this thing to work and have read a lot of different things about converting from 2 pin wiring harness into a 4 pin alt. Anyone have some advice?

Miguels Posted March 22, 2014 Report Posted March 22, 2014 you only need 1 wire to make the alt work.. i wired mine directly to the ignition with a 500ohm diode inline and it is working my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/
divebombvt Posted March 22, 2014 Author Report Posted March 22, 2014 Singer built the alt knowing the truck only had a 2 pin hookup. He said it could be done and would be more efficient by wiring up a 4 pin alt. He said he had done it before but he isn't responding to anything right now, I am guessing because of SBN. There is a way to hook up the 2 wires to this 4 pin alt and make it work, just can't seem to figure it out. I've made and inline resistor L wire like some places suggested but it did not work, the resistance between the L wire and ground is 598 ohms as is and that is supposedly too high. This thing has just become overly complicated, singers only instruction was to connect a switched power wire to the L pin but that didn't work. I figured someone else must have gone through this or knew of a diagram or something. PLease someone help
divebombvt Posted March 22, 2014 Author Report Posted March 22, 2014 you only need 1 wire to make the alt work.. i wired mine directly to the ignition with a 500ohm diode inline and it is working What wire and where on the plug does it go? The brown Wire as is has close to 600 ohms resistance I shouldn't need more right? Ive tried it with a 100 ohm inline resistor and still nothing... I've done what singer said by wiring an ignition wire to the L pin and it did nothing
Miguels Posted March 22, 2014 Report Posted March 22, 2014 most alts wire up the same.. you can splice your stock plug and make it touch the other plug to see which one makes it charge http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/attachment.php?s=258bc7f254e9889baa0e995c9860ff92&attachmentid=1012343&d=1352914013 my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/
