If you increase height, you can reduce depth some if that's what's you are wanting, problem is that if you take all width and height, it will not work too well firing backwards just frontwards (towards the cabin).

mmm i see, well how deep do you think is the minimum? working with the new max dimensions 16x38x22 what would be the best design? also would it be better have an individual port for each sub?

It can be done on 16x36x20 1/8" but it has to be setup to fire forward, if you also would like to try firing back, the box already posted could do that better.

Ok here it is, as before: Power: to sub rated, amp subsonic filter to 28 Hz, build a cardboard dummy box to test fit first, 45s are 2 1/2" wide except the one inside the port:
