You could just make your own 5v power supply from a LM7805 regulator, it'll bring down any voltage up to about 25v to 5v regulated. Way cheaper than the psu that someone posted.

Where could i find said regulator? Thanks

Also could i also splice the power supply from this usb hub and hard wire it into the regulator? If so i can power the board with this as well as have the external HD and the usb wireless remote keyboard.

Here's what I was planing on doing.

I wasnt going to have a head unit at all. I was going to use a lilput touch screen that does HDMI, and an audio splitter that will turn the HDMI audio signal into an analoge out for the amps. Or get an amp with optical in, or a sound proccessor with optical in. I would use the touch screen instead of the wireless keyboard/mouse combo, those are a PIA when you're driving. I've even considered using a Roku and a mifi device in car so I can change the stations with my phone. Adding bluetooth to the pi isnt hard either, thats also another way to go. There's so many ways to do what you're looking to do, it really depends on your end goal. Do you want to be able to have your entire music collection in car? 240gb SSD drives are on sale right now for 129 at newegg. Do you want to do video on multiple screens? The same video? Play games in the rear and music in the front for dual zone? You can do all of this. Its actually not that expensive, I think an 8 inch lilput screen is about 200$, the splitter is about 35 on ebay. A few other odds and ends and you're still in it for less than the cost of a head unit that does the same thing, and you can control it with your phone.

Im more or less looking to have a large music selection in car and i was looking the route of using a SSD but the Raspi is not strong enough to power the hard drive on its own so i need to figure out how to source power to all the units. I was looking at the usb hub posted above because then i can power the Pi via a microusb plug, power the external HD and also have the options to expand with a 7" touch screen or wireless keyboard. I am planning to keep my HU but will add the touch screen to control the Pi and just run the Audio out from the Pi to the rear Aux input on my HU and then run all the amps off the HU.

I was even thinking molding the entire pi into my center console and just using a plug in 3" touch screen which plugs directly to the Pi.
