Bassrace is one of the best competition formats I've ever seen, and I've competed at a LOT of shows (usaci, db drag/bassrace, MECA, unsanctioned).

The beautiful thing about it is ANYONE can win. It doesn't matter if its your first show or your 50th. All it takes is one little mistake for a seasoned competitor to lose to a rookie. :)

I'm not sure why digital bass is b*tching about people with bigger setups holding back. Just because you have 8 15's versus 2 15's doesn't mean you're going to win.

Hell, at a db drag show I did back in december, I beat a guy that had 4 12's when I was running a single 10" (in the 139.9 class).

If anything, the people with bigger systems SHOULD move up. I know I'd be embarassed if I had 10 15's and lost to a guy with 2 10's. :)

And I also agree about the show director being a bit boring. At the shows around here, sam horn does commentary during every run and makes it really exciting.

for some guys haveing a big system actually harder to compete in a lower class. cabin gain can be a bitch and a small twitch in your volumn control can easily make you jump 5+ and bust out.

I agree, when you're doing over 150 and have to compete in the 129.9 class it's very difficult not to break out. On my alpine 9831 If I'm at level 20 I'm doing 140, level 21 143. It's a very very careful balance not to go over, and if the song does 138.9 at a volume of 20 I have to turn it to 21 for a 1/2 second then back down not to go over 139.9. It's very tough.
