BigZ Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 Hey all, i am still utterly lost as to how to figure out appropriate dimensions for tuning my box and was wondering if someone would be able to give some helpful input or, if you're feeling generous, even help me out with a cutsheet and diagram.' I've spent hours on end for weeks looking up and trying different formulas for all the caculations, used the things off of carstereo.com , tried messing with torres box calculator as well as sketchup and solid works to find the type of enclosure id like best. I've narrowed it down to subs up, square port firing back at the hatch. Im going to be using 2 Soundqubed HDS315s and the max dimensions i am able to use are 23h X 37w X 27d i'd like to use as much of this space as possible or not falling anywhere below 9.5 ft^3 before displacement. And for the port ive put in countless calculations but have either been unable to reach my desired tuning frequency of 32hz because of lack of space, at which point i am confused as to how to bend the port or where to relocate the whole port on the box for the best output, or have not been able to come close to the recommended port area and that is where i need some help. TLDR: i need help with a box 2 Soundqubed HDS315 23h X 37w X 27d subs up, port back square port (Not slot) 140 - 165 in^2 of port area tuned to approximately 32hz thanks for any help and sorry about the long paragraph - Z This is my signature, there are many like it but this one is mine.
Joe X Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 Post what amp and vehicle models you have, also these subs are recommended for higher tuning, sure 32Hz?
Guest Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 32hz is low for these woofers. like, "i want to play 22hz" low.
BigZ Posted April 12, 2014 Author Report Posted April 12, 2014 What would you guys recommend in regards to tuning frequency then? I love the lows, like decaf songs and I guess everyone knows the song rack city and that One low note, stuff like that is what I'd like to play with authority And tentatively I'll be powering the two on 1 AQ2200.1 at 1 ohm Any recommendations are more than welcome, nothing is set in stone yet, I've got a relatively tight budget but any recommendations for different subs or amps I'm open to suggestions This is my signature, there are many like it but this one is mine.
jarrius Posted April 13, 2014 Report Posted April 13, 2014 IMO if you tune to around 36hz with a well designed box(from Joex) it will play low enough. I run a hdc3 12 in a box designed by JoeX tuned to 36hz and it can play down to 30hz no problem with authority at 32hz. But that's in my car yours may be different 2012 Chevy sonic1xSQ HDC3 12 D2RF R1200d 140 square foot of Q-Mat(soon to be installed) 140.2Db sealed on the dash with TL 142 DB sealed on the dash with another meter (was dead on with the TL at a show i was at) 141 on music. strangeduck,on 02 Jan 2014 - 01:39 AM, said: when my car spins out i just put the car in neutral, turn in the direction i want to go and pucker my asshole
BigZ Posted April 13, 2014 Author Report Posted April 13, 2014 Oh alright cool, thanks. I'm still quite the noob with box design, and yes, well almost, 30D would be absolute Max, touching the hatch while still being able to close it This is my signature, there are many like it but this one is mine.
Joe X Posted April 13, 2014 Report Posted April 13, 2014 Ok so here's one way to do it, power: to subs rated, port clearance to hatch 4 1/4", amp subsonic filter to 28Hz:
BigZ Posted April 13, 2014 Author Report Posted April 13, 2014 im diggin' that design, Thanks! and thanks again to all of you guys for your help and input, i'm just getting started with this side of car audio and am learning new things every day. Thanks again! This is my signature, there are many like it but this one is mine.
