whats up

lurked here for a minute and i decided to make an account, already part way through this build, but id figure might as well start it now and i can post questions cause i have a few incase anyone has answers or input on what I'm doing

I had a lot of older flicks, from putting it on coils, tinting, new rims, fog lights, short shifter, and sound dampening. but those were lost on my phone and only on a different computer. ill try and edit them in later, cause you know people love flicks...

What i had before was a 12" jl audio 3v3 ran off a 600w amp, stock electrical, shitty grounds. So needless to say i had bad dimming and my battery didn't like me much..

So i fixed the ground, grabbed a group 31 yellow top ( didn't want to wait on an XS) and it solved that issue temporarily. (car has 70 amp alt stock….)

old system wiring, 4ga ground, might go overkill to 1/0g soon as i have some extra laying around.

new false floor, the stock shitty one sagged with out the spare tire, downside was if i hit a bump semi hard, and my coils are pretty stiff, it'll bounce up a little.

And the Woofer!

…. wait… its a D1?!……… had to send it back and exchange for the D2

wires, 1/0 for power, 8g for speakers, and i think that is 10g or 12g for remote, yea i got a lot… I'm not sure what my reasoning was, i think it was cheaper by a couple ten cents a foot if you bought the 50ft not selected by your own length… who knows.

IMG_0518_zps21006957.jpg

went ahead and ordered one of these, figured it'd be easier than a O scope, cheaper than a quality o scope and this is idiot proof. and sometimes i am an idiot.

my pile of goodies piling up

just some wires, terminals, fuses, fuse holders, rcas and an amp. i guess i lost my flicks of my amp when it came in the mail

its the Crescendo BC2000d

and that plastic bag of stuff is an ELD Bypass, good looks to Haters Gon Hate for the re write up of it on this forum. although i still have yet to wire it up lol!

It was sunny for the first time in weeks the other day, so i decided to tear shit out of my trunk.

took out my rear 6x9s, the middle seat belt, the lock opener for the rear seats, and the torsion bars. those freakin torsion bars gave me a hell of a time… except now one of them is my trunk holder.. opener.. thingy.

but all of that stuff removed gave me a max of 19" height from the false floor, 20" from the normal floor not the spare tire well though. originally it was around 15" or so.

IMG_0861_zps21cb4b57.jpg

i put more sound dampening on after this flick, covered the 6x9s and stuff. still not finished. its the most tedious thing to do and i hate it...

now before i go on to my enclosure part, i must say that i don't know a whole lot about enclosures, i haven't checked any libraries for any info and the internet can be hard to find info. i have been researching it a bunch. its a lot to take it but maybe it'll be more simple when i understand? lol.

wood, i entrusted home depot with cutting it to dimensions… they were cool. told me couldn't guarantee it to be exact, don't really expect it. only one piece was about a millimeter larger.

IMG_0887_zpsf45a022e.jpg

went with a sealed box because i don't fully understand port tuning and all that, also its simpler for my first time, and to make it better i own a mac so every program ive heard about isn't compatible. so if anyone has info on that its greatly appreciated! (if you even read this far lol)

box was 4cuft before sub displacement

IMG_0889_zps6b2eaa9a.jpg

she arrived!

website says 1500rms… I'm fine with this though! my alternator won't be….

one of many idiot moments...

this was the only way it would fit in, it measured out but i didn't properly measure the opening. so my numbers were high.

i should of taken more flicks of this… it was funny.

IMG_0892_zpsd7215781.jpg

and i decided, fuckit, ill having it firing upwards… well when it came to mounting the sub, i quickly realized there was no possible way to mount it, sooooo…...

New box! i forgot the inner dimensions of this, but i believe the outside is something like 31.5 x 15 x 16.5

read scooters build a while ago, saw he got that tech flex stuff. looked tight os i thought id try it..

it looks tight, but i guess i didn't get a large enough size, i ordered 3/4 inch and it was supposed to max open to good amount larger than 1/0 wire. but that wasn't the case and i spent a hour jerking it off pretty much to get it on… very gay… then i said fuck it for the power wire and I'm going to order larger size in the future. oh and the bad thing about this stuff, is it is pretty damn flammable, but just to an open flame, when i held a heat gun up to it, it deformed and melted but didn't light. it does however give me piece of mind about the wire rubbing against metal through my firewall and dash and rear seat area.

ordered some dual 1/0 inputs from metal works, wish i would of got the copper cause they looked filthy, but i was feeling broke at the time

IMG_0919_zps29d075ba.jpg

so sadly my phone died when i decided to run all my wires, and mount my sub, and amp and all that.

but i did get this flick of it

IMG_0965_zps619401a4.jpg

IMG_0973_zps34b23267.jpg

then i realized way later, when my trunk wasn't rattling that much, that i had the sub firing forward! another idiot moment!

so today i flipped that bitch around, the spear wires are a little messy in the corner now cause they are closer. but ill fix that in a bit

^^^^

yea i really badly need carpet :( no stores have it so I'm ordering it from parts express (assuming they have it still, read that they did online somewhere)

really need to plastidip that silver trim piece, i hate it. that nasty gunk too, gotta get removed, previous owner had that really cheap and cheesy interior fake wood trim. and it left that shit everywhere. another one of those tedious things...

and i had to use, i think it was Haters Gon Hates, placement of his volt meter. looked clean and i liked it.

the bass knob, i am thinking about mounting it here, although i can't screw it in, so only option is, velcro or glue. I'm edging towards glue, because velcro won't look flush. but then glue will be impossible to remove it without breaking the bezel piece first… i think I'm fine with that

is 18" too far away too inline fuse for up by the battery? messed up my measurements, and at this point don't want to make it closer unless that amount of distance makes the fuse in effective

would my amp being so close to my sub cause any issues? its far enough where the sub won't hit it, I'm mainly talking about vibrations.

also does anyone know how i could wire up my volt meter to remote turn on? it only came with a power and a ground wire, which is what caused my confusion. I did some searching and seems like maybe a relay would be an answer, helps appreciated.

also i read that having a ground longer than 1.5 ft can cause noise issuers, is this a real problem? this was shortly after i decided to run mine back to the battery so i had less cuts, so i could "recycle" it later on, and so i didn't have to drill a hole and bolt it to my frame.

my plans right now are to get that sucker carpeted, make some floor pieces for the left and right of the box and amp rack thingamabob.

-get my eld bypass going

-get this sucker carpeted

-get my volt meter running off a switch or remote turn on. voltage isn't too bad on half volume. i went pretty close to max before distortion for only a few seconds and my battery wasn't starting up too quickly. so i think it IS an issue

-get a h/o alternator, i think it is DC i want to avoid, i think i sad that someone got one and it didn't bolt right on. and i don't want to deal with that. any input on this is appreciated!

-get a second battery in the trunk and actually use my dual inputs, only running one of them.

-figure a way to mount my amp in the spare tire well, not sure how, and not sure how to cool it. haven't done much research on that matter.

in the future i plan on hopefully dropping in another 15", if i can have room. i will have a better idea once i have my second battery and spare tire thing going. i do know now that i would have to build it in my trunk though.

regardless of if i end up running two or one 15", i plan on forward firing sub and port, and completely sealed off.

thats pretty much it, once again, any feedback is appreciated, none of my friends are into car audio, so I'm doing this solo and learning along the way.

also hopefully ill update this once i get that bypass and other little things done.

why doesn't the HD have a Carbon Fiber cone?

oh you said doesn't lol. i don't know. that'd be cool i guess. I don't get boners for carbon fiber like many others do tho…

Looks good.

thanks man

is that a sealed box?

yeah, sealed for now, first box i made, well, second if you count the failed first attempt. going to get my electrical up, fix some other issues with my car, get some new mids, then work on a new ported box, cause i heard these are good ported.

should be updating soon ish. work sucks, no time for anything.
