Jon Tyler Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 So in the next couple weeks i planned on installing component speakers in my front doors. I was wondering if i need to put in an amp with them or if i need to upgrade the head unit first. I have a 2000 Chevy Tahoe, with a stock head unit. Also, what are some good, inexpensive mids/highs amps? Here are the components, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_72201_NVX-VSP65KIT.html Jon Funda 16 Car audio Enthusiast and Still learning Ragnarok Scenario Player, Youngblood #111
Ritch40 Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 i would highly suggest putting an amplifier on component sets. It does not need to be huge power at all. i have run infinity reference and kappa series on an amp that did an honest 50 watts rms per channel with very decent results.

noobslayer77 Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 you may put a head unit in and be happy with the difference it makes in your stock speakers. if you don't then grab a new set of components and an amp for them. That will definitely make a difference. 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited 2 13w7s skar 3500 cnf mids (soon) xs batteries
philrab Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 deck first, then speakers then amps and sub (this way you can hear/notice an improvement each stage of your audio upgrade) This is somewhat the way I went/am going. Deck, then added a small 8" sub in a stealthbox, then components, now a four channel amp. After all that, I'm giving heavy consideration to moving my 8" to the back burner and building a ported box for a Sunday SA10 or similar, if I feel like I need more bass to balance out the mids and highs. 2015 Toyota Tacoma Build Thread 2007 Mazda 3; 5000K HID's, Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, Infinity Reference 6.5 comps in front and coaxials in the rear doors, JL 320.4 four channel, Rab Designs built ported enclosure with an SA12, Kenwood monoblock, Redline Leater shift boot/e-brake boot/center console cover, JBR short shifter/shifter bushings/rear motor mount.
