Opened it up and all caps are in good condition and overall board isn't in bad shape but at least 3 or more fets are blown and the little circuit's they attach to. I know this is just a starting point on the obvious repair which ill be sending to a decent repair shop to do. The amp does nothing when power is applied to it so its not dead shorted not to say the traces couldn't be burnt totally into. Is this a amp worth fixing its in better than average shape for its age it is stamped on the circuit board made in usa its the bigger grey model not the new stuff. I really dont want to see believe its junk. Any suggestions? Thanks!

exc500 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 Called fosgate repair and they refer me to Freeman car audio for repair. He said probably between $100 &/200 to fix it. Its the older grey series that's stamped made in usa on the board. Its been a great amp and hate to see it junked so I dont think I can get as good an amp for what it will cost to repair this one seeing as It has worked for years perfectly. Its more than paid for its self especially seeing as I got it for around less than $100 years ago . I work at a pawn shop and every now and then I run across some really nice equipment. Id love to see it back pounding away!!

Also, RF repairs, are basically a total RECONDITION. You dont get a dab of solder, or a replaced fet, you normally get a fully restored board. No 1 But me paid for this stuff and NO FREEBIES so no brand names (No Free Advertisement ) A SQ head unit 6 5.25 2 X 6x9s 7804 P400.4 4001D 1 34s (Maybe time to change brand) 4 X 15" s !/0 @ 2/0 OFC Wiring :morepower1: :morepower1: ill say it like i always say it. F##K the DD-1. I don't care if you or anyone buys one. (well i do, but that isn't my point) Get an O-scope in the very minimum and learn how to use it or you are just guessing your settings like every other noob. once you master the O-scope then step up to a DD-1 or even better a DD-1 Plus.
exc500 Posted May 15, 2014 Author Report Posted May 15, 2014 I called the number that I was given for Rockford fosgate and they told me that they dont do repairs on that model amp and refers me to Freeman car audio. That was straight from Rockford fosgate. Which really surprised me I know its older but not like its a old school power 1000 mosfet. Believe me id much rather have it done at Rockford fosgate. Rf cant support every single product they put out for ever, under one roof. Theyd go broke paying people sitting around waiting for a 35 year old amp to come in. All I was asking was if maby there was another # I should try. Im getting it repaired for the estimate I was given its well worth getting fixed. Im 43 ive been installing and or involved in car audio since I was 15. So I enjoy the old school amps as much as anyone. Thanks for the input and unless anyone knows someone at rf that would do a factory repair on this amp then its probably going to Freeman's.
