Jessica Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 No offence OP, but i have thrown double rms to a cheap walmart pioneer, made the coil smack the back plate. Never got smelly. I had properly set gains and i'm just saying that from my experience a very large portion of the time coil failure is from clipping. Their are some guys who obviously do overpower and melt coils, but usually that is because the soft parts just cant keep up and the cooling mechanism loses efficiency and the coil overheats, or they are running 4X or more rms to their drivers and then of course they fail. But you arent really overpowering your sub. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. My super random youtube channel and terrible camera work. Rck'nRF Posted June 7, 2014 Author Report Posted June 7, 2014 All i know is i NEVER had my sub doing these such things/stress.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR15cAC2Pkw
Ahmed Johnson Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 They were intentionally trying to blow that sub. Those are the old models and considering the abuse he just put those through in free air, it kind of makes it look like you are the problem and not the sub.
Guest Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Yes you can blow a sub while using a low wattage amplifier A clipped signal or sine wave basically microwaves the voice coil and gets it so hot that shit breaks Especially cheap shit

Rck'nRF Posted June 7, 2014 Author Report Posted June 7, 2014 My HU is a pioneer 45wattx4(15wx4 RMS) and when i had my Rockford gain ANYWHERE UNDER 3/4 it was ABSOLUTLY unacceptable! as for producing bass, No matter where i adjusted bass/settings on headunit,amp/X-over,there was NO cab filling bass a 15" should be doing. This is the 1st sub i ever burned out ,and if my gain was to high then i'm "glad i cooked it" ..
Jessica Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 i'm never satisfied with output, gain is irrelevant. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. CleanSierra Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 I'm sorry for your loss. Since it didn't bass to your likings, maybe a purchase for a sub that would have done the job properly, with a gain that was set correctly, would perhaps have better suited you. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
