Rck'nRF Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Well i had my 15" sub hooked up for about 7weeks putting about 4-500watts RMS into it and tonight the dam coil starting rubbing something horrible, thought it was actually my box/something loose inside, removed sub, turned on it back on/free airing it (low volume) and "SNAP" sub dead now.. I can only conclude that the 'S' in Alpine series stands for 'shit'?...7weeks!..how chinese does it get.
bbeljefe Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 China has nothing to do with your sub being damaged. There are cheap products built there and there are high quality products built there. The people at Alpine made the decision about the quality of their products, not the build house they contracted with. That said, how were your gains set? What are the details of the box? What amplifier is it? What kind of wiring is installed and, where is the amp grounded and how? There are thousands of Type S subs in daily use with no problems. ;-) Facebook: facebook.com/audioanarchyllc Instagram: audioanarchyllc Youtube: youtube.com/bbeljefe
Rck'nRF Posted June 7, 2014 Author Report Posted June 7, 2014 So bbeljefe, are you saying even though the sub could handle a max of 1500watts,if gains are set at 3/4 on a 500watts RMS Rockford 500watt amp,it'll still blow it? I am quite gentle on all my electronics as i don't need/want crazy loud, just a healthy amount of bass..i mean before i got this 15"sub, i was pounding 2 old Kenwood 12"s that were from 1993 for MONTHS(still good too) before this 7week old & now 15" expired sub..this sub was put into a box of approx 1.5cuft/sealed,has big 3 done,0-gauge wiring and 8 ga wiring to speaker's. The amp is grounded by a big assed connector at rear cab with about 1ft of 0-ga...something tells me Alpine may not like small sealed boxes, but specs did say it could be put in one as low as 1.34cuft..

hispls Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Type S is bottom of the barrel Alpine. If you want good QC and over-built buy a premium priced product. Also if you bought from a legit dealer you can likely get it warrantied assuming it was a manufacturer defect (which is possible). If you paid 50$ for it off of some shady online retail site you got what you paid for and shouldn't have expected much more. Pay now or pay later.
bbeljefe Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Peak power ratings have nothing to do with daily use. And gain at 3/4 means nothing unless you also mention the head unit you're using and whether or not you're using a line driver or other preamplifier ahead of the amp. Ahmed Johnson Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 Those type S's aren't that bad for mainstream low budget subs. Do you have the older models?
fox_racin4 Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 I ran a type R 12 on 3k for a while....no issues there... Buttt i knew it could blow and didnt even care 1998 gmc extd cab 12 crossfire C710s 4 SAZ-4500s 3 Singer 400A altsbuncha mids/highs Team Asshole
CleanSierra Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 How did you set your gain on your amp? Do you know where you're HU clips? Which HU do you have? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
REH Posted June 7, 2014 Report Posted June 7, 2014 So bbeljefe, are you saying even though the sub could handle a max of 1500watts,if gains are set at 3/4 on a 500watts RMS Rockford 500watt amp,it'll still blow it? Your gain at 3/4 means nothing if your head unit voltage says to set it at 1/4. You saying that, makes it sound like you're using the gain as a volume knob.
