Educate me on charging AGM batteries.

Recommended Posts

So i just ordered a AGM to replace the Duralast under my hood and another Battery for the trunk. I got a charger from walmart ( here is the link )

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Schumacher-Electric-2-6-8-Amp-6-12V-Battery-Charger/25955539

Im wondering if this will properly charge my batteries or not. If not why, so i understand thanks. I do know AGMs typically rest at a higher voltage, so would this charger not charge my batteries to full capacity? What should a good AGM rest at after fully charged? Thanks again sorry i had to throw that in also. :morepower1: Please!

I would buy something like the ctek7002 they sell them on sonic, amazon, and eBay. Made for regular and atm batts costs in the low 100s worth it charges my 2 d3100s and d3400.

I was going to buy something like this if it was really necessary but if the charger i have will properly charge the batteries im not going to spend the extra cash. Thanks for the input though

i would go the route of the ctek 7002 or xs intelli charger. if your budget is limited as mine was, go with the ctek. awesome charger, 8 step process with float. it has even revived dead batteries that were 7 years old, with its desulphation process.

others on here have had some luck with shumacher chargers and battery tenders, i dont have experience with those.

but i do have experience with the ctek 7002 and can tel you the 100 dollar price tag sold by amazon, has a warranty is authorized to sell and is one of my favorite purchases. protect and maintin your expensive batteries with a good known charger.

ctek also has modes for a power supply wet cell batts agm batts (higher voltage). overall the best. and it has to be the 7002 series or thier 25000 series (more expensive) for a few reasons. it has a 7.5 amp charge rate which can effectively top of 2 group 31, not recharge from 0. must seperate to recharge from 0. and also has the 8 step process. anything lower than the 7002 is a waste of money for what youd be trying to do with it. unless you are maintaining 1 bat

just my 2 cents

Sounds like a really good investment then. I just spent about 300 on more batteries so a good charger like that might have to wait till next month but thanks for the info. I will be looking to get one in the near future
