Awhitewookie Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Was banging away just fine yesterday and when I drove today I had no output from my amp to the subs. Weigel21 Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 Amplifier powers on, but you get no output? Don't want to insinuate anything, but your HU hasn't sub preamps in which the sub volume somehow got turned down or the sub output switched off. Have you measured the RCA's at the amp for AC voltage? You could try using a 3.5mm to RCA adapter, if you have one, to try an alternate source input. Edit Sorry, you already stated you check the HU settings.
Awhitewookie Posted June 13, 2014 Author Report Posted June 13, 2014 As simple as that sounds, I have never successfully measured rca voltage. I set the meter to acv and touch the leads to correct points and turn up my radio, but I still have never gotten a reading on several different setups. Today I was driving and it played normally for 30 seconds then started going in and out from next to nothing, to about 20% output MY BUILD 1998 Ford Explorer 2dr sport 1/0 Big 3 1/0 everything Alpine cda-9884 Crescendo CZ components (2) Crescendo bc2000's (2) Jolt 150ah (2) Yellow top optimas (1) Juicebox black cherry addition (1) Mechman 270 avbm miss my bc5500 and (4) 15's You know why people are ass holes online but not in person? Weigel21 Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 You're running the Alpine in your sig, correct? Had you maybe been running a Pioneer, I may have suspected a blown Pico fuse perhaps, but that wouldn't be the case with the Alpine. Sounds like you may have some sort of intermittent issue wit the wiring to your subs. Kind of odd to not have ever been able to get a reading. Granted, with music playing, even with the HU at full tilt, you may only momentarily get spikes of little over 1V as the preamps are 2V. You'd need to be playing a 0dB recorded source at full volume (or darn close to it) to get the full 2V output on the preamps.
Awhitewookie Posted June 13, 2014 Author Report Posted June 13, 2014 Yes I'm using the Alpine. I checked all my subs wiring (they are all inverted now so everything is very simple to check) Just finished playing a few songs full tilt no problems, lol what the hell MY BUILD 1998 Ford Explorer 2dr sport 1/0 Big 3 1/0 everything Alpine cda-9884 Crescendo CZ components (2) Crescendo bc2000's (2) Jolt 150ah (2) Yellow top optimas (1) Juicebox black cherry addition (1) Mechman 270 avbm miss my bc5500 and (4) 15's You know why people are ass holes online but not in person? Weigel21 Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I hate it when things break and seem to fix themselves, leaving you unable to figure out what's wrong, as it's only a matter of time before the issue will arise again. To make matters worse, doesn't seem you can get the issue to remain consistant. Amp you have is rated to do a solid 5800RMS@1 ohm, right? Subs I'm having difficulty finding consistent specs on, but from what I'm seeing, subs would be able to take every bit of the power that amp can produce and even then some. How was it you went about setting the gain on the amplifier? You look to have a fairly beefy electrical system, but even still, I wonder how much it's lacking. Do you notice issues of voltage drop? I mean you've got a 270AMP alternator, but that amplifier could demand that when making half it's rated power and so I'm not entirely sure just how much capacitance the Optima and Jolt batteries really have on hand. Juicebox? What's that, another battery/power cell still, or some sort of capacitor?
Awhitewookie Posted June 13, 2014 Author Report Posted June 13, 2014 This issue actually happened for a day or two when I vacationed to Florida in December and I never solved it either Solid 5800. Weigel21 Posted June 13, 2014 Report Posted June 13, 2014 I wonder if perhaps you got corrosion building up on the connection points of your 1/0 wire. I mean the change in atmosphere from Austin to Florida could have resulted in accelerating corrosion due to the more humid atmosphere. I'll be honest, troubleshooting without said setup in front of a person is much more difficult. Somewhat surprised other members haven't chimed in with possible causes. I'm pretty much at a point where I'm swinging blindly. How long you been running this setup and when did issues begin?
Awhitewookie Posted June 13, 2014 Author Report Posted June 13, 2014 Interesting. I never thought about that. Ill check it when I'm off from work.
